Freelance Modeling information

What is freelance modeling?

A freelance modeling job is when a model works independently rather than being signed exclusively to an agency. Freelance models find their own gigs, negotiate contracts, and manage their schedules. They work with photographers, brands, designers, and agencies on a per-project basis. This allows for more flexibility but also requires strong networking and self-promotion skills. Freelance models often use social media and online platforms to showcase their portfolios and attract clients.

What are some common challenges freelance models face when starting out?

Freelance models often face challenges such as building a strong portfolio, establishing reliable client connections, and managing the irregularity of project-based work. It can take time to gain visibility in the industry, secure consistent gigs, and develop the confidence to self-promote. Effective networking, ongoing skills development, and diligent self-management are important for overcoming these hurdles. Building your reputation and client network may seem daunting at first, but perseverance and professionalism are key to long-term success in freelance modeling.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in freelance modeling?

To thrive as a Freelance Model, you need excellent posing, runway, and personal branding skills, along with a strong portfolio to showcase your work. Familiarity with photo editing tools, casting platforms, and social media marketing is often important for finding opportunities and managing your professional presence. Strong communication, self-discipline, and adaptability help build lasting relationships with clients and succeed in diverse assignments. These skills are crucial for maintaining a competitive edge and consistently securing new projects in the rapidly changing modeling industry.

Job description

About Skyscanner
Everyone loves travelling, but planning is not without its challenges . That's why we've spent 20 years building tools that turn travel-planning chaos into a breeze. Today, around 160 million travellers count on us every month to skip the whole "47 browser tabs open" phase and find flights, cars, and hotels quickly and easily .
Joining Skyscanner means becoming part of a global brand that's striving to become the planet's go-to travel hack accessible for all .
Our vision? To be the world's number one travel ally. (Ambitious? Yes, but, hey, that's what got us here).
Now, we're on the lookout for a Creator Manager to help us bring that vision to even more travellers.
About the role
(Hybrid)
This is your chance to be part of something big. As our first social Creator Manager in AMER, you'll shape a creator programme that doesn't just rack up views - it helps people travel smarter.
We're after a sharp strategist with serious creative instincts and a sixth sense for what works on social. Someone who gets that influence starts with trust and builds it through relevance, resonance and bold moves that pay off.
You'll shape our influencer strategy across partnering with creators to craft content that's helpful, saveable, scroll-stopping and platform-perfect. Not rinse-and-repeat brand deals, but thoughtful collaborations that feel true to each creator and genuinely useful to their communities.
Working closely with our Regional AMER and Global Social & Community Leads (plus your counterparts across EMEA and APAC), you'll help build a world-class creator model - one that earns trust, drives performance and turns Skyscanner into the travel brand people love.
What you'll be doing
  • Building standout creator collaboration: You'll develop meaningful relationships with creators across key AMER markets, turning successful collaborations into long-term partnerships delivering sustained value for both them and us.
  • Designing purposeful creator strategies: You'll work hand-in-hand with our regional and global Social & Community team to ensure creator content isn't just an aesthetic, it's purposeful and aligns with our broader brand and marketing strategies and activities.
  • Manage multi-market creator programmes and campaigns: You'll manage our rolling organic advocate programmes across AMER markets alongside splash campaign activities, in collaboration with agencies, freelancers and partners to deliver stories that people genuinely want to watch, save and share.
  • Localising with insight: You'll provide sharp AMER market expertise, ensuring our global creator strategy lands authentically in every region without losing its local flavour.
  • Spotting relevant trends: You'll identify the right cultural moment and social media trends to develop bold creator activations that land with meaning and momentum.
  • Scaling our commission-led model: You'll work in collaboration with our Senior Affiliate Marketing Manager, building a creator affiliate programme that works for emerging voices and established names alike.
  • Optimising for performance: You'll use analytics platforms, such as insights tools for creator vetting, social dashboards for metrics tracking and performance reporting frameworks, to drive decision, measure impact and improve results.
  • Contracting negotiations and budget management: You'll manage the end-to-end creator process from budget planning and negotiating contracts through to the creative process and invoice management.

About you
  • Creator ecosystem expert: You know the creator world inside and out, with experience from agencies, in-house teams, or both. You've run campaigns across AMER (including USA, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, understand how each market differs and aren't afraid to get hands-on with creator tooling. And when it comes to local regulations and disclosure rules, you've got them covered.
  • Strategic operator: You know how to plan, launch, measure and optimise creator campaigns that don't just go live, they go far.
  • Platform fluent: Across Instagram, TikTok and YouTube you speak their language, understand platform quirks and instinctively know what plays where. Plus, you will test new platform opportunities for creator activities.
  • Relationship builder: You're the kind of person who turns introductions into long-term partnerships. From spotting rising talent early to nurturing trusted collaborators over time, you build relationships that can last well beyond a single campaign.
  • Cross-functional connector: You're confident working with agencies and freelancers - crafting sharp briefs, giving thoughtful feedback and pushing for best-in-class creative while protecting the creator's voice. You know standout work happens when collaboration is built on trust and clarity.
  • Comms expert: Internally, you're the glue. You keep freelancers, agencies and internal stakeholders and channels aligned, informed and moving in the same direction whilst balancing creative ambition with commercial reality and making it all feel seamless. You're also a clear communicator with an internal radar for timelines, to-do lists and the tiny details that keep everything running like clockwork.
  • Trend spotter: You've got a sixth sense for emerging travel creators and cultural shifts before the algorithm catches on.
  • Commercially savvy: You're confident managing contracts, invoices and budgets. You know how to negotiate fairly and effectively.
  • Data-driven decision maker: You love getting into the numbers, using insights to improve performance and guide smarter creative bets. You will be curious about the role of creators in the emerging world of LLMs and AI.
