As the Machining Manager, you will lead daily operations within a modern precision CNC machine shop, guiding machinists and shop personnel while driving improvements in quality, productivity, safety, and delivery performance. What You’ll Do
  • Lead daily CNC machining operations to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable production.
  • Manage and support machinists, setup technicians, and shop personnel through coaching, training, and clear direction.
  • Plan production schedules, balance resources, and ensure customer commitments are achieved.
  • Lead production meetings to align teams on priorities, challenges, and goals.
  • Monitor key performance metrics including productivity, downtime, scrap, throughput, and on-time delivery.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to improve processes and solve production challenges.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving machine utilization, and increasing efficiency.
  • Support tooling strategies, setup reduction, fixture improvements, and advanced machining approaches.
  • Troubleshoot machining issues and work with teams to identify root causes and implement solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with quality systems including ISO 9001, AS9100, GD&T, and first article inspection requirements.
  • Maintain product traceability and documentation for highly engineered and regulated products.
  • Use ERP/MRP systems to manage work orders, capacity planning, scheduling, and labor allocation.
  • Support new equipment implementation, process integration, and team training.
  • Build a safety-first culture by promoting safe work practices and continuous improvement.
  • Communicate shop performance, risks, and improvement opportunities to leadership.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience leading CNC machining operations in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership experience managing machinists and production teams.
  • Deep understanding of CNC milling, turning, and multi-axis machining processes.
  • Experience with production scheduling, capacity planning, and meeting delivery goals.
  • Knowledge of tooling, feeds and speeds, fixtures, and setup optimization.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing performance metrics.
  • Ability to interpret GD&T and support quality-driven machining processes.
  • Experience with ISO 9001, AS9100, inspections, and first article requirements.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Experience driving lean manufacturing, kaizen, and continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ability to collaborate across Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams.
  • Experience working in regulated industries such as aerospace, defense, medical, or precision manufacturing.
Preferred Experience
  • Managing a team of machinists and multi-skilled manufacturing employees.
  • Experience in CNC machine shops, aerospace, defense, contract manufacturing, or industrial equipment production.
  • Familiarity with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, GibbsCAM, Esprit, NX, or SolidWorks CAM.
  • Experience implementing new machines and integrating equipment into production.
  • Track record of improving OEE, productivity, cost, and manufacturing performance.
  • Experience supporting ITAR-regulated or government contract manufacturing environments.
