Location: Boston, MA
Hybrid: 3 days/week in office
Our Opportunity:
We are hiring a Software Engineer II to join the Cloud Engineering team in Boston, MA. At Chewy, it is our mission to be the most trusted and convenient destination for pet parents (and partners) everywhere. The Infrastructure Engineering organization develops services and tools to enable, support, and optimize software development processes and practices for Chewy engineers. In this role, you will develop new customer-facing features, enhance existing systems with automation, and improve observability of business applications that power the e-commerce platform and beyond. Further, you will have the opportunity to collaborate across the engineering organization to deliver self-service solutions which empower internal customers to move rapidly while building on Chewy's enterprise platforms.
What You'll Do:
  • Apply algorithms, data structures, and design patterns to build scalable and performant code
  • Architect a resilient system for a customer-facing web application from scratch
  • Partner with stakeholders and technology teams on how to best implement desired customer features and enhancements
  • Drive innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Collaborate with Team Members to drive automated solutions to standardize methodologies, workflows, reusable modules, and tooling
  • Contribute to team's standard processes for logging, testing, instrumentation, metrics, monitors, alerts, practices, and processes
  • Conduct design and code reviews and raise the bar on engineering rigor and standard
  • You will participate in setting guidelines for evolving development practices, as well as mentoring junior engineers
  • Actively participate in scrum ceremonies such as grooming, planning, demos and retrospective
  • Participate in on-call rotations, troubleshooting production issues and improving operational excellence

What You'll Need:
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, or similar; or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of Java programming experience
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS cloud platforms
  • 3+ years of programming experience with frontend technologies like React, Typescript, NodeJS
  • Ability to think independently and break down product requirements into well-defined tasks
  • Ability to collaborate with stakeholders to ensure development efforts align with stakeholder needs
  • Experience in monitoring production environment, troubleshooting, triaging and addressing production issues
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines in Jenkins or similar tool
  • Experience with IaC, Terraform or similar
  • Experience with designing, building and deploying scalable, highly available systems

Bonus:
  • Experience in e-commerce
  • Experience in Python
  • Experience with modern tools and environments (e.g. version control systems, bug/issue tracking tools)

  • The specific salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including but not limited to the candidate's relevant experience, education, and work location. In addition, this position is eligible for 401k and a new hire and annual equity grant. C08+ positions may also be eligible for annual bonus.
