Freelance Human Rights Researcher information

What is a freelance human rights researcher?

Freelance human rights researchers are independent professionals who investigate, analyze, and report on issues related to human rights. They often work on a project basis for organizations, NGOs, academic institutions, or media outlets, gathering data, interviewing stakeholders, and producing reports or recommendations. Their work helps inform advocacy efforts, policy-making, and public awareness of human rights concerns. Freelancers in this field typically have expertise in law, social sciences, or international relations, and they must stay updated on global human rights developments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance human rights researcher?

To thrive as a Freelance Human Rights Researcher, you need a strong background in international law, social sciences, or human rights, supported by research experience and relevant academic qualifications. Familiarity with data analysis tools, online research databases, and citation management systems is commonly required. Outstanding analytical thinking, attention to detail, and clear written communication help you produce impactful reports and collaborate with diverse stakeholders. These skills are crucial for generating credible research that informs advocacy, policy-making, and awareness efforts in the human rights field.

What are some common challenges faced by freelance human rights researchers when working independently?

Freelance human rights researchers often encounter challenges such as limited access to primary sources, navigating data privacy concerns, and maintaining objectivity without institutional support. Building a reliable network for interviews and information can be demanding, especially when working remotely or across different countries. Additionally, freelancers must manage their own project timelines, budgets, and client expectations, making strong organizational and communication skills essential for success.

AspectFreelance Human Rights ResearcherHuman Rights Advocate
CredentialsRelevant degrees, research experienceLegal or advocacy training, certifications

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Freelance Tester (Faroe Islands) - Global Payment Research based in Netherlands.

As a Freelance Tester, you will support a global payment research project by helping validate how international transfers are received by real local bank accounts. Your role will focus on confirming that test payments arrive correctly and that key transaction details, such as the amount, date, and payment reference, are displayed accurately. You will provide simple evidence through screenshots or a short video and share it with the testing team. The assignment requires approximately one hour of active testing and does not involve making purchases, sending money, transferring funds back, or using your own money. You will receive clear instructions and can complete the activity remotely. This is a straightforward opportunity to contribute to real-world payment testing while potentially gaining access to additional freelance testing opportunities.

Accountabilities
  • Receive a small international test payment into a local bank account in the Faroe Islands.
  • Verify that the payment has arrived successfully and confirm the displayed amount, transaction date, and payment reference.
  • Capture screenshots and/or a short video providing evidence that the payment was received and the requested information is displayed correctly.
  • Submit the requested evidence and relevant testing information to the testing team.
  • Follow the provided testing instructions and complete the required verification steps accurately.
  • Create a freelancer account on the designated testing platform to access testing materials, instructions, and task tracking.
  • Complete the initial account setup and onboarding process, which takes approximately 30 minutes.
  • Sign the required consent form before relevant information is shared with the payment provider for transaction processing and verification.
  • Communicate any issues, discrepancies, or unexpected payment details identified during the testing activity.
  • Complete the active testing assignment within the expected timeframe and provide all required evidence.
Requirements:
  • Currently reside in the Faroe Islands.
  • Have access to a local Faroe Islands bank account denominated in the local currency and capable of receiving international transfers.
  • Be comfortable providing the banking details required to receive the test payment.
  • Be comfortable receiving a small test payment and providing screenshots or a short video confirming the transaction details.
  • Be willing to provide the necessary consent before relevant information is shared with the payment provider for the testing activity.
  • Able to follow written instructions carefully and complete a straightforward verification task accurately.
  • Comfortable using basic digital tools to capture and submit screenshots or short videos.
  • Reliable, responsive, and attentive to transaction details.
  • No specific device or specialized technical background is required.
Benefits:
  • Approximately 1 hour of active testing.
  • Bank transfer may take up to 2 business days to arrive.
  • $18 USD/hour for the testing activity.
  • $100 USD completion bonus after successfully completing the testing requirements.
  • Fully remote freelance assignment.
  • Clear instructions and testing materials provided.
  • No need to send money, make purchases, transfer funds back, or use personal funds.
  • Opportunity to gain experience with international payment testing and real-world financial technology workflows.
  • Initial platform setup can provide access to potential additional freelance testing opportunities.
  • Flexible, task-based engagement suitable for short-term freelance work.
