Overview

Location: 3205 N Twyman Rd, Independence, MO 64058 

Hourly Pay Rate: $19.00 to $21.50

Schedule: Flexible PRN/Per Diem schedule with a minimum of 8 to 12 hours per week.

As a Behavioral Health Technician, you'll team up with a passionate crew of therapists, counselors, and mentors to support teens (ages 12-17) on their mental health and recovery journey. You'll lead activities like art, music, games, and sports while helping young people build confidence, connection, and coping skills through hands-on experiences. Most importantly, you'll be part of a mission-driven team focused on reducing teen behavioral health challenges and making a lasting impact in our community. 

Responsibilities
  • Make an impact by mentoring teens and fostering a safe, engaging, and structured therapeutic environment.
  • Lead adolescents through daily routines, group activities, and the development of healthy coping strategies.
  • Receive paid training in substance use recovery counseling and safe verbal de-escalation and physical intervention techniques to respond effectively to behavioral escalations.
  • Document progress notes daily and communicate key updates to the Program Director.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure individualized care and to maintain a safe, supportive atmosphere.
Qualifications
  • Age: 21+

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent GED is required; associate's or bachelor's in human services, psychology, criminal justice, or a related field preferred.

  • Experience: 1+ year working with adolescents in behavioral health, education, coaching, or mentorship preferred.

  • Certifications: CPR and First Aid preferred (training provided).

  • Physical Intervention: Must be willing and able to participate in physical interventions (e.g., therapeutic holds) when necessary, following all safety protocols and trauma-informed practices
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand for extended periods, walk and run short distances, respond quickly in crisis situations, and safely engage in physical interventions when necessary. 
  • Background Checks: Must pass pre-employment drug screening and federal/state background checks per Missouri law.
