Job Description

Title: Math Teacher                                                                      Location:  Prairie Hills Junior High School 

Employment Type:  Full Time                                                     Work Days: 10-month position

FSLA:  Exempt                                                                             Reports to: Building Principal       

Job Summary: 

The Junior High Math Teacher is responsible for providing high-quality instruction aligned with the Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics, fostering a positive and engaging classroom environment that promotes problem-solving, critical thinking, and a lifelong appreciation for learning. The teacher will design and implement rigorous, differentiated lessons that meet the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of junior high students. This position requires collaboration with colleagues, effective communication with families, and the integration of technology and data-driven instructional strategies to support student achievement. The teacher will serve as a key contributor to the school's mission of preparing students for success in middle school, high school, and beyond.

Education, Certification, and Licensure:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field
  • Possess a valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with:
    • Endorsement in Mathematics
    • Self-Contained General Education, Kindergarten-Grade 9 (SCGE) endorsement
    • Type 03/09 certification (grades K-8)
  • Minimum of three (3) years of successful math teaching experience in classroom settings
  • Knowledgeable in standards-based instruction, assessment practices, and data-driven decision making
  • Familiarity with Illinois Learning Standards for Mathematics and current educational improvement initiatives
  • Experience working with multiple grade levels in upper elementary and/or junior high education
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates professionalism, organization, and a commitment to continuous improvement

Experience:

  • Minimum of three years of classroom teaching experience, preferably in 6th-8th grade math.
  • Demonstrated success in raising student achievement in mathematics.
  • Experience utilizing data-driven instructional strategies to improve student outcomes.
  • Experience integrating STEM concepts and project-based learning into math curriculum is preferred.
  • Prior experience with middle school student development and understanding of the unique social-emotional needs of early adolescents.

 Essential Duties and Specific Responsibilities:

Salary is based on CBA Union negotiated terms
