Job Description SummaryGE HealthCare is seeking a Director of Engineering, Architecture to lead the architecture and technical strategy for our next-generation Imaging Fabric platform. This platform enables AI-powered medical imaging, real-time visualization, and enterprise-scale performance across on-premises, edge, and cloud environments.
This role is responsible for defining enterprise architecture, driving platform modernization, and enabling the integration of AI capabilities into imaging products used by healthcare providers worldwide. The successful candidate is an accomplished technology leader with deep expertise in enterprise software architecture, high-performance distributed systems, and medical imaging platforms.
This is an applied AI architecture leadership role, focused on integrating AI capabilities into production imaging solutions rather than developing machine learning models.Job DescriptionRole Description
  • Define and execute the enterprise architecture strategy for the Imaging Fabric platform.
  • Lead the design of scalable, secure, and high-performance imaging solutions across on-premises, edge, and cloud environments.
  • Drive platform modernization through cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, and performance optimization.
  • Partner with Product Management and Engineering leaders to translate business strategy into scalable technical solutions.
  • Enable the adoption of AI-powered imaging capabilities including visualization, intelligent streaming, workflow optimization, and image analysis.
  • Establish architecture standards, technical governance, and engineering best practices.
  • Mentor senior architects and provide technical leadership across global engineering teams.
  • Drive cross-functional collaboration to deliver reliable, enterprise-grade healthcare platforms.

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience designing and leading enterprise-scale software architectures.
  • Proven experience building high-performance, distributed systems in healthcare, medical imaging, or similarly complex technology environments.
  • Deep understanding of medical imaging platforms, including DICOM, PACS, and clinical imaging workflows.
  • Experience architecting scalable solutions across on-premises, edge, and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud).
  • Strong knowledge of distributed systems, microservices, Kubernetes, containerized applications, and cloud-native architectures.
  • Experience integrating AI capabilities into enterprise software platforms, including AI inference, image analysis, or intelligent workflow optimization.
  • Strong programming background in C++, Python, Java, or Go.
  • Demonstrated success leading senior technical teams, influencing architecture across organizations, and driving enterprise technology strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Medical Imaging, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Medical Imaging, Computational Imaging, Computer Graphics, or a related field.
  • Experience with advanced medical imaging technologies including rendering, visualization, image streaming, and large-scale imaging datasets.
  • Knowledge of GPU computing (CUDA or equivalent), parallel processing, and high-performance computing.
  • Experience with AI-enabled imaging capabilities such as image segmentation, image enhancement, intelligent streaming, or predictive data loading.
  • Familiarity with modern visualization techniques, scientific imaging, and enterprise healthcare platforms.
  • Experience mentoring senior architects and leading technical transformation across globally distributed engineering organizations.

It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
