Summary: We are seeking an experienced and safety-conscious Underground Utility Operator to join our team. The primary responsibility of this role is to operate heavy machinery and equipment to excavate, install, and maintain underground utilities, including water, sewer, and stormwater systems. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of excavation techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols. The following responsibilities are not all-encompassing, as specific work tasks vary.
Pay Rate: $32.00 - 35.00/ hour based on experience
Essential Responsibilities
  • Equipment Operation: Safely and efficiently operate heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, trenchers, loaders, and other machinery to excavate, grade, and backfill trenches for utility installations.
  • Utility Installation Support: Assist in the installation of underground utilities, including pipes, conduits, and related components, ensuring proper alignment and depth.
  • Grade Control: Maintain accurate trench grades using lasers, GPS, or other grade-checking tools.
  • Inspection and Maintenance: Perform daily equipment inspections, ensure proper maintenance, and report any mechanical issues promptly.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to OSHA and company safety standards to prevent workplace accidents. Identify potential hazards and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with pipe layers, crew members, and supervisors to ensure smooth project execution.
  • Job Site Preparation: Assist in clearing and preparing job sites, loading/unloading materials, and ensuring a clean and organized work area.

Qualifications
  • Minimum of three years of experience preferred.
  • Strong industry experience specific to construction, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Proven track record of working on projects involving water, sewer, and stormwater systems.
  • Proficient in operating heavy machinery, including knowledge of controls, attachments, and safe operation practices.
  • Strong understanding of trench safety, grade control, and excavation best practices.
  • Capability to work in various weather conditions and confined spaces.
