Job description

Position Summary

GEICO is looking to hire a Counsel to defend lawsuits filed in Texas courts and other first‑party insurance defense. The position is with GEICO Staff Counsel located in Dallas, TX.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda.
  • Render opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.
  • Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions/examinations before trial and examinations under oath, and defend by trial or dispositive hearing in all assigned matters.
Qualifications
  • 7+ years of experience in litigation, particularly insurance defense and/or personal injury.
  • Juris Doctor degree.
  • Admission to the Texas Bar and licensed in good standing to practice law in Texas; meet and maintain ongoing licensing requirements such as mandatory Continuing Legal Education.
  • Ability to travel as required for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings and conferences.
  • Strong written communication skills producing clear, concise, professional files understandable to customers, clients, co‑workers and other employees.
  • Ability to follow complex instructions, resolve conflicts or facilitate conflict resolution, and demonstrate strong organization, priority setting and multi‑tasking skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Civil litigation experience.
  • Insurance defense‑related litigation experience.
  • Professional communication skills in person, via telephone and written correspondence/email.
