Overview:

The Junior Environmental Scientist/Geologist will support fieldwork at locations around the United States, learning and applying the latest technologies to conduct field investigations and remediate contaminated sites.

IMPORTANT: FPM Remediations, Inc. is an 8(a) HUBZone business certified by the Small Business Administration (SBA). FPMR employees who live in a HUBZone, may be eligible to receive additional earnings paid on a bi-weekly basis. These additional earnings will be paid following verification and provision of supporting documents. The HUBZone earnings will continue to be paid if residency in a HUBZone is maintained.

Primary Responsibilities:

The position will support fieldwork at locations around the United States.

• Collects soil, surface water, groundwater, sediment, and air samples.
• Completes daily field reports.
• Packaging and shipping samples to laboratories for analysis
• Maintenance, calibration, and operation of field instruments
• Overseeing and monitoring the work of subcontractors including drill rig crews, surveyors, construction crews, and remediation work health and safety air monitoring
• Observe, evaluate, and document site field conditions and communicate changes in field conditions to senior staff.
• Support preparation of technical reports, which may include importing electronic laboratory data reports into FPMs and clients data management systems evaluating data quality and usability
• Preparing written reports of field activities, observations, and findings and preparing graphics and figures of results.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

• There are no supervisory responsibilities associated with the position.

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelors degree in an environmental science and/or environmental engineering, with a preferred focus on geology, and coursework in chemistry, physics, and mathematics.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to travel

• Strong technical writing skills.

• Effective communication and problem-solving skills.

• GIS experience is a plus.
• Experience with Microsoft Office applications with extensive experience in Excel is preferred.

Security Clearance:

• Must be able to successfully complete a U.S. government administered investigation.

Travel:

Extensive travel to field sites required > 80% travel initially. Upwards of 40-60% travel after gaining appropriate level of field experience. Fieldwork involves performing physically demanding tasks and working 10-hour days (typically five (5) 10-hour days per week), potentially in adverse field conditions (cold, hot, high wind, dusty environment, rough terrain) in remote locations.

General officeand field work environment. Travel may be required based on business demands.
