Job description

We are seeking an analytical, detail-oriented Freelance Associate Merchandiser to support our Global Merchandising team in bringing innovative and compelling product assortments to market. In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams to support line planning, pricing, assortment strategy, and product creation across assigned categories, channels, and consumer segments. You will play a key role in helping drive seasonal product strategies that deliver against customer needs, business objectives, and financial goals.
  • This is a 6+ month contract role in NYC.
  • Hourly Pay: $35.00-45.00 based on experience and level of technical proficiency.

Responsibilities:
  • Partner with Merchandising leadership to support seasonal product strategies and build assortment plans that align with customer demand, brand objectives, and financial targets.
  • Analyze sales performance, consumer insights, market trends, and competitive activity to identify opportunities and support assortment decisions.
  • Leverage projections, bookings, sell-through metrics, and historical performance data to provide actionable business recommendations.
  • Maintain merchandising calendars and support key milestones to ensure timely execution across cross-functional teams.
  • Coordinate sample management activities, including tracking, prototype reviews, and documentation of product feedback.
  • Develop and maintain assortment tools, line sheets, presentations, and other merchandising materials to support internal stakeholders, sales teams, and retail partners.
  • Prepare and analyze merchandising reports, including sales performance, booking recaps, projections, and post-season business reviews.
  • Monitor industry, consumer, and competitive trends to help identify emerging opportunities and inform future product strategies.
  • Apply critical thinking and business acumen to translate data and insights into meaningful recommendations.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance team processes, communication, and operational efficiency.
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Product Development, Supply Chain, Raw Materials, Marketing, Sales, and Retail teams to ensure seamless execution of seasonal strategies.
  • Assist with merchandising initiatives across global markets, gaining exposure to regional customer preferences and business dynamics.
  • Successfully manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining a high level of accuracy, organization, and attention to detail.

Qualifications:
  • 3-5 years of experience in Merchandising, Buying, Planning, Product Development, or a related field. Relevant internship experience will be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Business, Marketing, or a related discipline.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make informed recommendations.
  • Customer-focused mindset with a genuine interest in understanding consumer behavior and product performance.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to balance creativity and commercial thinking in a fast-paced environment.
  • Solid understanding of retail and merchandising fundamentals, including basic retail math.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Outlook.
  • Close attention to detail with strong project management and prioritization capabilities.
