Quality Engineer (Zing)
Zing Recruiting, in partnership with a leading automotive manufacturing supplier in the Birmingham, AL area, is seeking a Quality Engineer to join their team! This is a high-impact, customer-facing engineering role supporting a Tier 1 automotive facility. This position offers strong benefits, profit sharing, and long-term growth opportunities within a global manufacturing environment.
Quality Engineer Job Summary:
Pay: $76,000-$90,000 + annually DOE
Bonus: Annual profit sharing based on company and individual performance
Degree Required: Bachelor's Degree (Engineering preferred)
Experience Required: 3-5 years in automotive manufacturing
This is not a traditional quality inspection role-this position functions as a critical engineering and customer-facing problem solver responsible for protecting customer relationships and driving long-term quality improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Diagnose and resolve manufacturing and quality issues on the production floor
  • Perform defect analysis and metrology-based investigations
  • Lead structured root cause analysis using 8D, 5 Why, and Fishbone methods
  • Support supplier quality and internal corrective actions
  • Serve as primary quality interface with customers and external stakeholders
  • Ensure compliance with IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and SPC requirements
  • Collaborate with production, engineering, and suppliers to prevent repeat defects
  • Analyze quality data to identify trends and implement process improvements
  • Drive containment, corrective, and preventive actions for complex issues
Quality Engineer Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field required
  • 3-5 years of experience in automotive manufacturing (Tier 1 preferred)
  • Strong experience with metrology and defect analysis
  • Hands-on knowledge of stamping processes (Class A metal stamping preferred)
  • Experience with supplier quality and/or customer-facing quality roles
  • Working knowledge of IATF 16949, APQP, PPAP, FMEA, SPC
  • Strong problem-solving skills using structured methodologies (8D, 5 Why, Fishbone)
  • Ability to analyze data, identify root causes, and implement long-term solutions
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to interface with customers and cross-functional teams
  • Must be comfortable working on the production floor in a hands-on environment
