Title: Quality Inspector – Wire Harness ManufacturingLocation: Huntsville, AL Position Status: Full Time Brief Job Description: The Quality Technician – Wire Harness Manufacturing is responsible for ensuring that wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical assemblies conform to customer, engineering, regulatory, and contractual requirements through the application of IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship standards and the Axxeum AS9100 Quality Management System. This position performs receiving, in-process, first article (AS9102), and final inspections while independently evaluating product acceptability, identifying nonconformances, and supporting timely resolution of quality issues. The Quality Technician works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Program Management to ensure only conforming products are released to the customer and serves as a technical resource for workmanship standards, inspection methods, and continuous process improvement.ResponsibilitiesPerform receiving, in-process, first article (AS9102), and final inspections of wire harnesses, cable assemblies, and electromechanical assemblies. Determine product acceptability in accordance with engineering drawings, customer specifications, IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship standards, AS9100 requirements, and applicable internal procedures. Verify that completed assemblies conform to all contractual, engineering, and workmanship requirements prior to customer release. Inspect and verify compliance with IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 acceptance criteria, including:Wire routing and harness configuration Wire stripping and conductor preparation Crimp quality, conductor brush, bellmouth, and insulation support Pull-test verification and documentation Connector contact installation, retention, and cavity assignments Soldered terminations Heat shrink installation Cable lacing, braiding, and cable tie installation Shield terminations and backshell installation Wire identification, labels, and marking Splices, strain reliefs, and cable protection Review engineering drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, bills of material (BOMs), wiring lists, travelers, and customer specifications to verify product compliance. Verify revision levels, part numbers, serialization, traceability, and required manufacturing documentation. Complete inspection reports and maintain accurate quality records in accordance with company procedures. Verify electrical test documentation including continuity, isolation, resistance, insulation resistance, dielectric withstand (Hi-Pot), and other customer-required testing. Confirm that all required testing has been successfully completed before product acceptance.Identify, document, and segregate nonconforming material in accordance with company procedures. Initiate and process nonconformance documentation while clearly describing defects and objective evidence. Communicate workmanship deficiencies to Manufacturing and Engineering to support timely corrective action.Participate in First Article Inspection (AS9102) activities. Support internal audits, customer audits, and third-party assessments. Verify calibration status of inspection and test equipment before use. Assist with root cause investigations, corrective actions, and continuous improvement initiatives. Promote compliance with AS9100, customer-specific quality requirements, and regulatory standards. Serve as a technical resource for IPC/WHMA-A-620 Class 3 workmanship standards and inspection best practices. Provide constructive feedback and guidance to production personnel to improve workmanship and reduce recurring defects. Exercise independent judgment in determining product acceptability and recommend product hold or rejection when requirements are not met. Maintain a clean, organized, and ESD-compliant work environment. Follow all company safety, security, and quality procedures. Perform other duties as assigned in support of manufacturing and quality operations.RequirementsHigh school diploma or GED. Minimum of 5 years of quality inspection experience in wire harness, cable assembly, aerospace, defense, or electronics manufacturing. Working knowledge of IPC/WHMA-A-620 workmanship standards. Ability to read and interpret: Engineering drawings Wiring diagrams Schematics Bills of Material (BOMs) Manufacturing travelers Experience using precision measuring equipment. Current or previous IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Specialist (CIS) certification. Strong computer skills for documentation and quality recordkeeping. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.Must be detail oriented with good analytical skills and ability to handle multiple tasks independentlyMust be able to work in a team environmentMust have attention to detail and critical thinking skillsMust demonstrate positive, polite, and professional behavior at all times when dealing with co-workers, customers, and all levels of managementMust have the ability to communicate using clear, concise, and accurate English; both verbal and written are RequiredPreferred QualificationsExperience working within an AS9100 quality management system. Experience performing AS9102 First Article Inspections. Familiarity with NASA, DoD, or aerospace workmanship requirements. Experience with cable testing equipment and electrical verification.Physical Requirements:Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility to include but not limited to: bending, reaching, climbing, turning, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distances may be required. Must be able to lift, move, and transport items frequently over 10 pounds.Work Environment:Generally, work is conducted in an inside office environment, but may also involve some outside work depending on the task. The inside environment may be in an office or cubicle with close quarters, low to moderate noise, and bright or dim lighting.
