Special Education Teachers provide individualized instruction and support to students with diverse learning needs, ensuring they can access the curriculum and reach their academic and social goals. This role helps foster an inclusive high school environment by implementing IEPs and collaborating with staff, families, and support teams.
Position Details:
Start Date: September 1, 2026
End Date: June 2027
Schedule: Monday-Friday
Grade Levels: High School
Location: In Person, 35 hours
School Year: 2025/2026
Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) aligned with student needs and goals
  • Provide specialized instruction in a high school setting based on state standards and student learning plans
  • Adapt curriculum, assignments, and assessments to accommodate diverse learners
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation in compliance with state and federal guidelines
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to support student success
  • Participate in IEP meetings, team meetings, and professional development opportunities
  • Implement behavior management strategies and intervention plans as appropriate
  • Create an inclusive, structured, and supportive classroom environment

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Valid Connecticut Special Education Teaching Certification
  • Knowledge of IDEA regulations, IEP development, and special education compliance requirements
  • Experience working with high school students with diverse learning needs
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills
  • Ability to differentiate instruction and modify curriculum effectively
