Freelance Content Creator information

What is a freelance content creator?

Freelance content creators are self-employed professionals who produce various types of digital content, such as articles, videos, social media posts, graphics, or podcasts, for clients or their own online platforms. They typically work on a project-by-project basis rather than as full-time employees. Freelance content creators are responsible for generating ideas, creating engaging materials, and often handling editing and publishing tasks. Their clients can range from businesses and marketing agencies to individual entrepreneurs or brands. This role requires creativity, adaptability, and strong communication skills.

What does a freelance content creator do?

As a freelance content creator, you contract with a client to develop marketing and promotional materials that advertise a product or service. In these jobs, you may write blog posts, newsletters, articles, sales collateral, and similar materials, but some clients require graphics, video, or multimedia content, so you can also get involved in visual projects. Your responsibilities include collaborating with knowledge leaders at your client’s company to ensure that the content you develop is accurate and engaging, and you also work with marketing strategists and sales teams to align your content with the company’s messaging, branding, and growth strategies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a freelance content creator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Freelance Content Creator, you need strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, often developed through relevant experience or a background in communications, journalism, or marketing. Familiarity with content management systems (CMS), SEO tools, social media platforms, and graphic design software is typically required. Outstanding time management, adaptability, and self-motivation help set top freelancers apart in a competitive market. These skills ensure the creation of engaging, high-quality content that meets client needs and drives audience engagement.

What are some common challenges freelance content creators face when managing multiple client projects?

Freelance content creators often juggle projects for different clients, which can lead to challenges like balancing varying deadlines, adapting to different brand voices, and managing communication across several stakeholders. Staying organized is crucial, as is setting clear expectations with clients about timelines, revisions, and deliverables. Many content creators find success by using project management tools, maintaining a detailed calendar, and proactively communicating progress to ensure all projects move forward smoothly.

Video Producer / Content Creator

William Thomas Digital

Toronto, ON

Contractor

Job description

Video Producer / Content Creator
Toronto 3-month Full-Time Contract
Location: Downtown Toronto (3-4 days on-site/week)

At WTD (William Thomas Digital), we partner with leading brands to design and deliver customer experiences that are personal, data-driven, and powered by technology. These are experiences that don't just meet expectations - they redefine them.

From loyalty and CRM to AI-enabled personalization and high-impact digital experiences, we help some of North America's most recognized companies connect with their customers in more meaningful, measurable ways. Now, we're ready to tell our story with the same creativity, craft, and strategic thinking we bring to our clients.

We're looking for a Video Producer / Content Creator to help bring that story to life: What we do, how we think, how we build, and the moments behind the scenes that make WTD what it is.

The Role

This is a high-trust, high-impact opportunity for a creator early in their career who wants to build something - not just execute briefs.

You'll work closely with our VP of Marketing and Purpose to shape how WTD shows up in the world. That means owning everything from idea to execution: filming our team in action, directing quick interviews, editing social-first videos, and creating brand-level content that turns process into storytelling.

We move fast. We value momentum over perfection. And we need someone who is not only creative in their craft - but also creative in how they get it done. You're someone who can make something out of nothing, move with agility, and bring structure to chaos.

What You'll Do
  • Capture real moments inside a modern marketing agency - our team solving big challenges, working through ideas, presenting bold thinking, and delivering extraordinary experiences.
  • Create short-form content for LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram - from thought leadership and behind-the-scenes reels to quick-turn insights and mini-masterclasses.
  • Own the production process end-to-end: concepting, scheduling, shooting, editing, animating, and publishing.
  • Build sizzle reels, case studies, pitch videos, and internal content that elevate the WTD brand.
  • Establish a consistent visual and editorial tone across WTD content that feels modern, human, and uniquely us.
What We're Looking For
  • A strong portfolio that shows you know how to make content that feels relevant and real - whether it's from freelance work, internships, side projects, or early career experience.
  • Strong technical skills in shooting, editing, and motion design. You're confident with tools like Premiere, Final Cut, After Effects, or DaVinci.
  • A builder's mindset - you thrive in fast-moving environments, take initiative without waiting for perfect conditions, and find creative solutions with limited time or tools.
  • A strong point of view and an eye for story. You know how to shape footage into something compelling.
  • You're self-directed, collaborative, and excited to be a key contributor to a growing, modern brand.
  • Based in or near Toronto, with the flexibility to be on-site regularly for shoots and collaboration.

This is a great role for someone early in their creative career who's ready to own content creation at a fast-paced, high-growth agency - and build a body of work that really matters.

Why This Role Matters

At WTD, we're building a company defined not just by what we deliver, but how we think. You'll help bring visibility to the people and process behind that thinking - and play a key role in shaping how we tell our story to the market, our clients, and the world.

This is your chance to create with purpose. To move fast. To make work you're proud of.

To apply: Send us your portfolio - branded content, short-form video, doc-style storytelling, social clips - and a quick note on why this opportunity speaks to you.

We are an equal opportunity employer and are committed to providing employment accommodation in accordance with the Ontario Human Rights Code and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA). We will provide accommodations to job applicants with disabilities throughout the recruitment process. If you require an accommodation, please notify us and we will work with you to meet your needs.
