Job description

The Assistant Bursar Fees assists the Bursar's Office with the implementation of the student information BANNER and assists users, parents, and students with all Banner related needs. 

Minimum: Requires a bachelor's degree in business, computer science, or related field; one year of relevant experience, proficient in Excel and Microsoft Access; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Excel and Microsoft Access is required.

Preferred: Master's degree in business, computer science, or related field; 2-3 years in Higher Education, preferably in a Bursar or Financial Aid Office; 1-2 years' experience working with BANNER or similar Student Information Systems is preferred.

  • Responsible for managing BANNER functionality including developing reports, rules and scripts, and documentation resulting from upgrades to BANNER, changes in processing, adding of new fees, and any developments for the Bursar's Office, DASH, TouchNet and the shared drive entries
  • Performs BANNER and TouchNet testing, training, and support to Bursar's office staff
  • Performs testing all rules relating to refunds, course fees, lab fees, Distance Learning fees, Differential fees, E-Books, Total MOCS Access and any other miscellaneous fees
  • Maintains upgrades and releases, and processing semester rules (Fall, SPRING, Summer) and any duties relating to the maintenance of BANNER
  • Maintains third-party software and interfaces such as TouchNet cashiering, credit card processing, electronic refunds, and deposits. 
  • Checks UC4 to ensure holds are added and removed successfully
  • Performs troubleshooting of issues as they arise with all automatic systems within the department
  • Assists with responding to daily questions as they arise from Customer Service Specialist relating to the On-Line Receipting (OLR) in DASH
  • Supervises and monitors parking decal audit and distribution
  • Processes Title IV updates, reviews rejected refunds from ACH deposits, and performs monthly reconciliation of prepayments for scholarships and other related programs
  • Processes returns of ACH checks for students and parents
  • Performs setup rules in BANNER to assess all tuition and fees for the campus including Distance Learning fees for "D" campus, Differential fees, Credit by Exam fees, PMBA, and EMBA fees audit
  • Performs setup refund rules and withdrawal/drop dates to ensure students receive the appropriate prorated refund at the time of their drop/withdrawal
  • Performs setup and maintains the cashier, student and veteran installment plans for students to choose from via Touch Net each semester
  • Maintains and reviews orientation fees for all terms, enters and audits extension and late fees for the required plans
  • Runs End-of-Day processes in BANNER daily to maintain integrity and accuracy of students' accounts
  • Runs transfer voucher processes to send necessary data to UT Knoxville weekly
  • Closes TouchNet sessions daily to ensure reconciliation between TouchNet and BANNER are accurate
  • Approves refunds as they are sent to the Sr. Associate Vice Chancellor for review and approval
  • Resets student pins as needed to allow students access to the TouchNet system
  • Serves on the duplicate ID committee by updating the documents with Bursar decisions on each student shared drive
  • Serves as holds trainer for all University employees to gain access to add and/or remove holds
  • Serves as backup to the Associate Bursar during approved leave and absences
