Job description

Mechanical Engineering Expert (AI Training) About the Role We're looking for mechanical engineering experts to help train and improve cutting-edge AI models being developed with the world's leading AI research labs. Your deep technical knowledge will directly shape how AI understands and reasons through complex engineering problems - from fluid dynamics to finite element analysis. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role. You set your own schedule and work as much or as little as fits your life.
  • Organization : Alignerr
  • Type : Hourly Contract
  • Location : Remote
  • Commitment : 10-40 hours/week
What You'll Do
  • Design Challenging Problems - Create advanced mechanical engineering problems across domains like FEA, heat transfer, thermodynamics, kinematics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance
  • Author Gold-Standard Solutions - Write clear, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation
  • Audit AI Reasoning - Review AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for accuracy, safety, and adherence to engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.)
  • Improve AI Thinking - Identify logical errors in AI reasoning - such as incorrect force distributions or energy conservation violations - and provide structured feedback to sharpen model performance
Who You Are
  • Pursuing or holding a Master's or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
  • Strong foundational knowledge in one or more of: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
  • Able to communicate complex technical concepts and physical phenomena clearly in writing
  • Highly precise - you catch errors in mathematical derivations, unit conversions, and physical system constraints
  • No prior AI experience required
Nice to Have
  • Experience with data annotation, quality evaluation, or technical review workflows
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
  • Background in academic or professional technical writing
Why Join Us
  • Work on genuinely cutting-edge AI projects alongside top research labs
  • Fully remote and asynchronous - work on your own schedule, from anywhere
  • Freelance perks: autonomy, variety, and global collaboration
  • Gain rare insight into how advanced large language models are built and trained
  • Potential for ongoing work and contract extension
