Job Summary
The Neuromodulation Lab, led by Dr. Scott Lempka in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Michigan, is seeking applications for a Research Laboratory Specialist Intermediate. The lab conducts computational modeling and clinical research focused on neurostimulation therapies for the treatment of neurological disorders, including chronic pain. The successful candidate will contribute to ongoing research projects by supporting study design, data collection and analysis, and general laboratory operations.
Responsibilities*
Will be responsible for performing computational modeling analyses of clinical neurostimulation therapies. This work will include image segmentation and finite element analyses to estimate the electric field generated during stimulation. This work will also require neuron modeling to estimate the neural response to the applied stimulation. May also have the opportunity to perform human subjects research related to neurostimulation technologies.
Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in a science or health-related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • 4-5 years of experience in computational modeling of neurostimulation therapies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong computational background with computer programming proficiency (e.g., MATLAB, Python).
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, as well as prioritize and exercise good judgement.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a diplomatic, collaborative and effective manner while maintaining confidentiality.

Desired Qualifications*
  • Doctorate degree in a science or health-related field
  • Experience with finite element analysis.
  • Experience with computational modeling of neurostimulation therapies.
  • Knowledge of clinical neurostimulation therapies.
  • Knowledge of clinical research.

**This is a one-year term-limited position with the possibility of extension based upon need and funding. At the end of the stated term, your appointment will terminate, and will not be eligible for Reduction-in-Force (RIF) benefits. This term-limited appointment does not create a contract or guarantee of employment for any period of time as you will remain subject to disciplinary or other performance measures, up to and including termination, at the will of the University in accordance with existing University policy and standards for employee performance and conduct.
Background Screening
