Chaloner has partnered with the American Friends of Magen David Adom on the search for a Chief Marketing Officer to join their team.

Summary of Position

The chief marketing officer (CMO) is responsible for developing and executing an external communications strategy to support fundraising efforts by American Friends of Magen David Adom's four regional teams, engage donors and prospects through the use of traditional and new media, and also directly raise revenue through the organization's direct-mail and e-marketing programs. The CMO also serves as a strategic thought leader and thought partner to the CEO and Board, developing and leading the organization's 3-, 5-, and 7-year marketing and communications strategy, and building, managing, and mentoring a high-performing marketing team.

Responsibilities

• Supervise (both directly and indirectly), build, and mentor staff of seven fulltime employees and three fulltime and part-time freelancers, including creating career-pathing and professional growth opportunities for team members.
• Develop and lead the organization's short and long-term marketing and communications strategy, moving the marketing function from a primarily execution-focused operation toward one grounded in forward-looking, strategic planning.
• Serve as one of the organization's crisis communications lead, remaining available and responsive, including evenings, weekends, and Shabbat, to manage rapid-response communications during emergencies affecting Israel or AFMDA's mission.
• Act as the leader for AFMDA's branding efforts to ensure the organization's marketing materials and messages are consistent and on brand both visually and in terms of content.
• Oversee and supervise AFMDA's press and public relations to build the brand and position Magen David Adom as a leader in emergency medical services, EMS technology, blood services, mass-casualty response, disaster relief, and emergency preparedness.
• Oversee the organization's direct-mail and e-marketing programs, work with outside consultants, endeavor to increase revenue in these channels, and coordinate with AFMDA's director of stewardship to convert donors in these channels to more significant donors.
• Oversee AFMDA's Christian Initiative, the organization's efforts to raise revenue from the U.S. evangelical community, and coordinate with outside consultants hired to assist in these efforts. Lead broader audience-expansion efforts to engage younger generations and to identify and cultivate new geographic markets.
• Oversee marketing and communications support for AFMDA's donor engagement programs, including national blood drives, teen and family summer camps, the preschool and elementary school education program, and the organization's sustainer giving and enhanced stewardship efforts, developing compelling digital and social media content in coordination with colleagues in Israel.
• Ensure marketing and communications materials clearly and consistently articulate Magen David Adom's role in Israel, including its function as the National Blood Bank, primary medical services partner to the IDF, a leader in mass-casualty and disaster response, operator of a human milk bank, provider of first aid training, and provider of COVID-19 testing and vaccination services, as well as its independence from the Israeli government.
• Keep Board of Directors and, specifically, the Board's Marketing Committee, appraised about AFMDA's marketing efforts and, when necessary, make presentations to the Board and staff.
• Maintain budget and approve consultant and vendor invoices on a weekly basis.
• Oversee the creation of print collateral and website content to keep potential donors informed about Magen David Adom.
• Oversee production of promotional materials and branded apparel and tchotchkes as giveaways to donors.
• Oversee maintenance and marketing of AFMDA's online store.
• Oversee the marketing of AFMDA's Avi the Ambulance children's book series and work with internal staff to market MDA to kids, youth, and their parents.
• Oversee the creation, as needed, for marketing materials for fundraising events and ambulance dedications.
• Establish and analyze key performance indicators and implement plans for continued growth and increased revenue.
• Work with internal staff to market Magen David Adom's Overseas Volunteer Program and engage college students and young professionals in MDA's work.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, writing, communications, or related degree required; A minimum of 10+ years of experience of progressive job responsibilities in marketing and communications positions within a nonprofit environment.

Skills Required

• Extensive knowledge of project management and budgeting;
• Experience in developing and implementing broad-based marketing strategies to include e-marketing, direct mail, social networking, and traditional marketing/communication sources;
• Demonstrated effectiveness in public speaking, excellent oral and written communication skills in English;
• Knowledge of Hebrew language a plus;
• Excellent computer proficiency with MS Office Suite, familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite, content management software, donor tracking software, project management software, and database skills;
• Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate with various audiences and all levels of management/leadership;
• Strong attention to detail and follow through required;
• A solid understanding of how MDA works and operates as well as Israel and Israeli society;
• A strategic, forward-thinking mindset paired with strong implementation skills; demonstrated ability to make quick, sound decisions and act with a sense of urgency;
• Strong delegation skills and demonstrated experience building, managing, and developing a team;
• Knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the Jewish community and the challenges it faces; candidates are not required to be religious, though being Jewish is strongly preferred given that the primary audience served is the Jewish community;
• Willingness to be available and responsive during crisis situations, including on Shabbat and other religious observances;
• Experience with American Jewish nonprofit organizations is helpful;
• Travel and the ability to work occasional evenings and weekend are required.

Salary

The salary for this position is $300,000 - $325,000.
