Description
Job Title: Mechanized Robotic Welder
Reports To: Manufacturing Supervisor
FLSA Status & EEO Code: Hourly Non-Exempt & Operatives
Division/Department: Manufacturing
Level of Work: I
Position Summary:
We are seeking a skilled Orbital/Mechanized/Robotic Welder to support our manufacturing operations by programming, operating, and maintaining mechanized welding systems while also performing high-quality manual welding. The ideal candidate will possess strong fabrication skills, experience with automated welding equipment, machine and part setup, fixture development, and the ability to troubleshoot mechanized welding processes. This role requires a combination of technical aptitude, mechanical ability, and a commitment to quality and continuous improvement.
Key Results Areas by level of work
Level I: Quality - Complete and accurate work performed efficiently
Production quality and efficiency using appropriate tools and equipment, qualified to perform special processes as needed
  • Working from drawings, specifications, manuals, codes, etc., sets up welding equipment and obtains electrodes and other necessary equipment for specified job or subassembly.
  • Investigates special welding instructions to conform to Quality Assurance requirements.
  • Slag work; examines weld for size of bead, penetration and quality continuous code welding and testing.
  • Visually examines completed weld for size of bead, penetration and quality.
  • Understand and work with complicated standards or special structures and weldments involving a number of parts and details, using clamp, tack weld, jigs, fixtures, and turning rigs.
  • In preparation of surfaces to be welded, will use a variety of tools such as grinder, chippers and arc gouging equipment.
  • Size of positioning of work may require incumbents of this position to operate a variety of material handling equipment including jibs, overhead cranes, and their accessories.
  • Uses an assortment of measuring tools such as straight edge, tape, welding gauges, etc. to ensure proper weld dimensions
  • Consistently meets customer's quality requirements and expectations.

Follow instructions - oral and/or written
  • Can properly read all blueprint and work instructions
  • Will provide instruction and guidance to employees assigned to assist and as required, will participate in training of welders and other employees of the department of lesser classification.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Production Supervisor, weld shop, or his/her designate.

  • Work may require use of scaffold, ladders, forklift, and/or scissor lift.
  • Work may require the use of a crane to move part.
  • Maintains a clean work area with no clutter.
  • Practices safety at all times while at work.
  • Follows safety policies and procedures and speaks up when others are non-compliant.
  • Wears all safety equipment for area of work.

Qualifications:
To qualify for this position, an individual must possess the knowledge, training, experience and abilities required.
Education and Training:
• High school GED Required
• Technical degree or welding certification preferred.
Experience:
• 3+ years of welding experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience operating orbital, robotic, or mechanized welding systems.
• Strong manual welding skills (MIG and TIG required).
Preferred Experience:
• Experience programing welders such as AMI, Polysoude, Liburdi Dimetrics, Amet, Orbitilum, Jet Line, ABB, Fanuc, Lincoln Electric Automation…
• Familiarity with PLC-controlled manufacturing equipment.
• Understanding of fixture design and weld sequencing.
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
Other:
• Must be willing to work overtime as required.
