You'll work with athletic department staff and students to teach and instill best practices for broadcasting live sports and collaborate with a team of freelance Quality Control operators to make sure the games are up to Big Ten Network broadcast standards and stream to the B1G+ platform.
A SNAPSHOT OF YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Oversee daily function of the B1G+ Operations Center, including working with freelance staff to ensure broadcasts successfully get on the air, and reviewing and editing feedback sent to students after each show
  • Develop and conduct regular training for quality control operators to ensure alignment within the group on Big Ten Network and B1G+ style and production policies
  • Assist in scheduling quality control operator shifts and assigning them to games to ensure there is proper coverage for all StudentU productions
  • Assist with the creation of training manuals and documents to assist students in understanding and achieving StudentU production standards
  • Work remotely with university staff and students to troubleshoot technical issues that arise prior to and during live broadcasts
  • Collaborate with other departments including programming, streaming, social media, and more to ensure smooth end-to-end communication for games on B1G+ and to identify top plays and good coverage worth highlighting on the Network's social accounts
  • Travel to campuses to provide students and on-campus staff with hands-on training and support

WHAT YOU WILL NEED
  • 1+ years of prior experience overseeing live sports productions
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Understanding of typical broadcast equipment (switcher, replay, graphics, cameras) and ability to troubleshoot issues related to that equipment efficiently and remotely
  • Capability to manage multiple projects and provide solid decision-making skills in a high-pressure environment

NICE TO HAVE BUT NOT A DEALBREAKER
  • Bachelor's degree with an emphasis on communication, journalism, or other related field
  • Experience training students or peers in live broadcast or studio production
  • Familiarity with the Big Ten conference and its member institutions
  • Familiarity with playing rules and typical broadcast coverage standards for high-profile NCAA sports
