Job description

OVERVIEW: McKim & Creed is seeking a Senior Landfill Leachate Treatment Process Engineer to join our successful and growing team and help expand our presence in the solid waste market. This is an opportunity for an experienced treatment professional to step directly into multiple active landfill leachate treatment projects while helping build the next phase of our solid waste and environmental treatment practice.
The successful candidate will have an immediate opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects involving landfill leachate treatment, PFAS and emerging contaminants, biological treatment, membrane systems, reverse osmosis, activated carbon, advanced treatment processes, residuals management, and treatment system integration. The role will work closely with our process, mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, civil, and environmental professionals to deliver practical, implementable solutions for our clients.
Our work in the solid waste market is growing rapidly, with landfill owners and operators increasingly looking to McKim & Creed for solutions to complex leachate treatment and water quality challenges. We are looking for a senior engineer who brings strong process engineering experience, enjoys solving difficult treatment problems, and can work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to move projects from evaluation and treatability through design, implementation, startup, and optimization.
This position is well suited for a senior engineer who wants more than a single-project technical role. You will have the opportunity to jump immediately into meaningful active projects, influence how solutions are developed and delivered, and help shape a growing solid waste practice within an established multidisciplinary engineering firm.
At McKim & Creed, you'll join a collaborative team with growing technical depth, an expanding portfolio of landfill leachate and solid waste work, and a strong pipeline of opportunities. We are looking for someone excited to contribute to that momentum and grow with us.
DURING YOUR WORK-DAY, YOU WILL:
Beyond supporting our existing workload, this position will play an important role in the continued growth of McKim & Creed's solid waste practice. We are looking for someone who can bring technical leadership to projects, mentor developing engineers, build trusted relationships with clients and technology providers, and help identify and pursue new opportunities across the landfill and solid waste market.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
  • Serve as a senior technical resource for landfill leachate treatment projects ranging from process evaluations and treatability studies through detailed design, construction, startup, and optimization.
  • Immediately contribute to multiple active leachate treatment projects for landfill and solid waste clients.
  • Develop and evaluate treatment process alternatives based on leachate characteristics, discharge requirements, operational objectives, lifecycle cost, and site constraints.
  • Lead or support process design activities including basis-of-design development, process calculations, mass balances, process flow diagrams, P&IDs, equipment sizing and selection, specifications, control narratives, and system layouts.
  • Evaluate and integrate treatment technologies such as biological treatment, membrane systems, reverse osmosis, activated carbon, advanced oxidation, and other physical/chemical treatment processes.
  • Address challenging constituents including PFAS, metals, ammonia, organics, dissolved solids, and other conventional and emerging contaminants.
  • Work closely with equipment vendors and technology providers to evaluate, select, and integrate packaged and vendor-supplied treatment systems.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams responsible for civil/site, mechanical, structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, PLC/SCADA, storage, containment, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Provide technical leadership during equipment procurement, construction, commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and system optimization.
  • Develop strong relationships with landfill owners, operators, solid waste companies, technology providers, and other industry partners.
  • Support proposals, client development, and strategic pursuits as McKim & Creed continues expanding its presence in the solid waste market.
  • Mentor engineers and help strengthen the technical capabilities of our growing treatment team.

WHAT WILL MAKE YOU STAND OUT:
  • The ideal candidate is an experienced process engineer who combines strong technical fundamentals with practical treatment-system experience. You should be comfortable moving between high-level treatment strategy and detailed process design and equally comfortable working with clients, operators, vendors, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Experience specifically with landfill leachate treatment is strongly preferred, including familiarity with the unique variability, contaminant loading, operational challenges, and regulatory considerations associated with landfill leachate. Experience with industrial wastewater or other high-strength, complex wastewaters may also be relevant.

WHAT WE OFFER: Join a company that puts its employees first.
Ranked as one of the Best Firms to Work For, here are just some of the reasons to become part of the McKim & Creed team:
  • Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP): All employees are owners & benefit from profits earned.
