Job description

Reinvent how the everything store moves and sorts, well, everything inside an Amazon warehouse. This is a next-generation, first-party conveyance and sortation platform that is still early enough that the person in this role will help define what it becomes. Key job responsibilities
As Senior Mechanical Engineer on the One MHS team, you will develop innovative and complex hardware systems for our emerging material handling solutions and improve existing hardware to optimize performance and enhance customer experience. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience designing and troubleshooting custom electro-mechanical systems from the ground up. They enjoy analytical problem solving and possess practical knowledge of mechanical design, fabrication, assembly and rapid prototyping. They thrive in an inter-disciplinary environment and have led the development of complex electro-mechanical systems.
- Work with an interdisciplinary team to execute product designs from concept to production including specification, design, prototyping, validation and testing
- Owner of the detailed design and performance of electro-mechanical systems
- Work with the Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Quality organizations as well as vendors to ensure smooth product launch
- Write functional specifications, design verification plans, and functional test procedures
- Exhibit role model behaviors of mechanical engineering best practices, thorough and predictive engineering analysis and cradle to grave ownership

About the team
Amazon installs a significant quantity of new buildings every year. The historical model has been to allow each integrator to use their own equipment, controls, subsystems, and methodologies. While that has allowed Amazon to be successful to this point, the variability between buildings has proven difficult to support and scale. One MHS' charge is to build partnerships to focus on consistency and scalability across our network of the future. We will be partnering with key suppliers to help them scale up their manufacturing capabilities to keep up with our needs, as well as refining their designs to drive innovation and operational uptime and better meet the specific needs of Amazon's operational environment.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in developing functional specifications, design verification plans and functional test procedures
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD experience and understanding of best practices for part design, and advanced assemblies
- Experience building prototypes to advance design thinking and the final product experience
- Experience collaborating and influencing multiple teams across multiple organizations
- Experience writing and publishing technical documents or equivalent
- Experience working in an Agile environment
- Experience in hardware design and validation of components, subsystems and systems
- Experience leading the mechanical detailed design of electro-mechanical systems
- Thorough understanding and use of principals, theories and concepts in mechanical engineering and ability to apply them to product design
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
- Experience with the project management of technical projects
- Master's degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent
- Experience in the design of complex mechanical products and equipment at volume
- Experience in launching new products
- Knowledge of SolidWorks simulation or Ansys Finite Element analysis tools
- Experience with Industrial control systems, both hardware and software
- Experience in process design and documentation
- Experience designing and debugging tooled (sheetmetal, cast, injection molded, etc) components
- Proficiency with Product Lifecycle Management PLM software and ECO's

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
