Job description

As our IT Business Analyst, you will be responsible for acting as a critical liaison between the business and technical teams, translating business needs into clear functional specifications and ensuring software solutions meet high-quality standards. You will gather requirements, design validation strategies, and execute testing to verify deliverables, including writing scripts as part of Test-Driven Development (TDD). This role requires strong collaboration with IT and business stakeholders to ensure project outcomes align with business objectives. Additionally, this role will serve as a subject matter expert, supporting technical teams in understanding functional requirements.

*This is an onsite position in Omaha, NE*


Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions
  1. Collaborate with business stakeholders to elicit, document, and refine detailed business and functional requirements, translating business needs into clear functional specifications
  2. Work with the technical team to produce design specifications, including process flows, screen layouts, and database requirements, while supporting development by clarifying business logic and ensuring alignment with requirements
  3. Partner with IT Product Managers to define project scope, milestones, and deliverables, and assist in managing timelines and resources effectively
  4. Support programming staff throughout the development stage, clarifying business logic and ensuring deliverables meet agreed-upon requirements
  5. Communicate with IT and business stakeholders to maintain transparency around project scope, status, and deliverables, serving as a subject matter expert for functional requirements
  6. Propose and evaluate solutions to business problems, contributing to process improvements that enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and quality
  7. Monitor and analyze validation results, providing timely feedback to development teams and assisting with root cause analysis for rapid resolution of issues
  8. Develop and execute validation strategies, including scripts as part of Test-Driven Development (TDD), and perform functional, integration, and regression testing to ensure deliverables meet business and functional requirements
  9. Develop and maintain automated test scripts or frameworks as needed to support efficient regression validation and integration testing within the development pipeline and reducing manual testing efforts
  10. Ensure all requirements and validation activities align with Agile development standards, supporting the delivery of high-quality software solutions
  11. Abide by all policies and procedures of Oriental Trading Company
  12. Maintain regular and predictable attendance
  13. Work requires in-person collaboration among colleagues and contractors

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a solid understanding of business process flows and their relationship to IT solutions
  • Ability to translate conceptual solutions into meaningful documentation, including user stories, specifications, data flow diagrams, and process models
  • Ability to assess current customer, enterprise, and industry trends and relate them to business performance
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts in clear, non-technical language
  • Strong collaboration skills, working effectively across business and technical teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Visio, PowerPoint) for documentation, presentations, and analysis.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Communications, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Experience
  • 3+ years of experience as a Software Engineer, Business Analyst, QA Engineer, or related discipline
  • 2+ years of experience gathering and documenting business and functional requirements
  • 1+ years of experience developing scripts as part of Test-Driven Development (TDD) to validate requirements
  • Experience across the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), from requirements gathering to deployment and validation preferred
  • Experience with automated testing tools (e.g., TestComplete, Selenium, QuickTest Pro) preferred
  • Experience with source control tools such as Git, GitHub or GitLab preferred
  • Experience using SQL for data retrieval and manipulation preferred
