University Enterprises Corporation at CSUSB ("UEC") supports the university's educational mission by providing quality services that complement the instructional program. The University depends upon UEC to provide services that cannot be supported with state funds. We're responsible for business enterprises on campus including, but not limited to, dining, bookstore, convenience store, and vending services. We also serve as the grantee for federal, state, and local funding for research and sponsored projects.

Position Summary

Temporary, Staff, Non-Exempt, Full Time, Benefited position through 6/30/2027 (Appointment may be renewed annually based upon availability of funds, availability of work and satisfactory job performance). 

Salary: $3,206.60-$3,466.60 per month.

Location: Infant Toddler Lab School at the CSUSB Campus.

Work Schedule

40 hours per week. Typically, Monday through Friday 9:00AM-5:30PM. Some evenings and weekend work may be required.

Typical Activities

Under minimal supervision of the ITLS Director, the Teacher will work independently to:

  • Provide a safe, secure, and nurturing environment for children enrolled in our program.
  • Assist with preparing and implementing daily activities tailored to the individual needs of each child and be willing to adjust the curriculum as necessary.
  • Be a DAP role model of effective teacher-child interaction in the implementation of the daily operation of the program.
  • Able to articulate program goals and philosophy and apply them to working with the children and other adults working in the program.
  • Manage children's behavior using positive guidance techniques and limit setting.
  • Plan for and facilitate smooth transitions for the children.
  • Ensure that all children are being treated with dignity and respect.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with colleagues and supervisors.
  • Work with other staff members to form a positive, supportive team atmosphere.
  • Serve as a mentor and role model for lab students, interns, and new staff, demonstrating best practices in positive guidance, curriculum implementation, and professional conduct.
  • Support the professional growth of students and interns by providing guidance, feedback, and opportunities for reflection.
  • Communicate consistently with the Master Teachers and Director regarding the functioning of the classroom (progress, problems, and concerns).
  • Establish positive and productive relationships and communicate effectively with families (approachable, tactful, keeps parents. informed, seeks a partnership with parents, work with parents to promote understanding of their child's growth and development).
  • Maintain confidentiality of children and families.
  • Ability to work with infants and toddlers and meet the individual and group needs of each classroom.
  • Supports daily classroom operations, including implementing schedules and routines.
  • Assist with staff breaks and ensure adequate classroom coverage.
  • Assist with daily closing or opening procedures of the center.
  • Assist with monitoring and supporting diaper changes and toilet learning for each child.
  • Ensure required teacher-to-child ratios are maintained at all times.
  • Support implementation of daily health checks for children upon arrival.
  • Support the planning and implementation of parent/child activities and center events.
  • Float between classrooms as needed to provide support and maintain program continuity.
  • Maintain consistent, professional communication with families, including daily updates at pick-up.
  • Assist in maintaining classroom environments, including bulletin boards and parent communication materials that reflect children's learning and interests.
  • Support and guide lab students, interns, and volunteers in daily routines and classroom expectations.
  • Provide informal feedback to the Master Teacher regarding student interns and support staff performance.
  • Model appropriate practices in positive guidance, classroom routines, and curriculum implementation for students and interns.
  • Implement developmentally appropriate activities as planned and support consistency across the classroom.
  • Assist with child observations, assessments, and developmental documentation.
  • Assist with delegating tasks effectively to staff, interns, and students.
  • Follow all health, safety, and hygiene procedures, including diapering and toileting protocols and daily records, in accordance with Title 22 regulations.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all classroom and shared spaces (e.g., kitchen, laundry, storage, outdoor areas).
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect in accordance with mandated reporting laws.
  • Limited travel may be required for training, conferences and other professional development opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Education:
    • A.A. or the equivalent units in Child Development or related field.
    • Possess a Child Development Permit: Teacher or higher or meet the qualifications to obtain upon hiring.
  • Experience:
    • At least six months of experience teaching in or directing an infant-toddler program (preferably, a NAEYC accredited program).
  • Other: 
    • Knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education.
    • Working understanding of child development principles with the ability to apply them effectively in a classroom setting.
    • Warm, nurturing, and responsive approach when working with children.
    • Effective organizational and planning skills with attention to detail.
    • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Friendly, helpful, and professional demeanor.
    • Dependable, punctual, flexible, and responsible in meeting job expectations.
    • Ability to recognize and respond to potential. developmental or behavioral concerns in children.
  • Special Requirements
    • Must have Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification.
    • Fingerprinting and background check clearance prior to employment.
    • MMR and tdap immunizations; negative TB test within the last one calendar year.
