Job description

Role: Senior Manager, Fraud Investigationsย 
Location: Chicago, IL -ย Hybrid (3 days/week in office)

As the Senior Manager, Fraud Investigations, you will lead the Fraud Function at tastytrade, including coaching and hiring a team of fraud analysts, establishing tracking for department KPIs, and providing critical input on the fraud prevention and detection strategy firm wide. This is a high-visibility, high-autonomy role that will report directly into senior leadership and work closely with compliance, operations, product, & technology teams. You will define the function, grow the team, influence selection of tools and vendors, and set the strategy while managing the program operationally.ย ย 

We are looking for someone who has managed fraud teams at a fintech or brokerage firm, who has scaled their team and adjusted operations based on the evolving needs of the business and the risk and regulatory landscapes. You are deeply knowledgeable in the fraud space, comfortable with ambiguity, energized by greenfield work, and able to move fast and pivot. What You'll Do:ย 

Build and own the fraud programย 

  • Define tastytrade's fraud taxonomy, risk philosophy, control framework, escalation protocols, and documentation.ย 
  • Partner with the business to define the firm's fraud risk appetite and translate it into a measurable fraud budget and KPI framework. Own reporting to senior leadership.ย 
  • Design and document the escalation path for SAR filing decisions between your team and the AML Officer.ย 
  • Build and maintain the fraud universe map including what vectors matter the most, where they occur in the customer journey, and what we are doing and not doing about them.ย 
  • Manage the fraud budget and headcount plan, including tooling and vendor spend.ย 

Own the fraud vector coverageย 

  • Take strategic ownership of all fraud vectors across the customer lifecycle from account opening, funding, trading, and withdrawal.ย 
  • Drive fraud investigations to resolution, coordinating with all relevant internal and external partners.ย 
  • Define and own our monitoring and detection strategy. Evaluate potential vendors and partner with Product and Technology to ensure we have the tools in place to manage fraud risk.ย 

Lead the teamย 

  • Hire, build, and manage the Fraud Risk team. Define each role's scope, escalation authority, and relationship with Customer Support, Compliance, and Margin & Risk teams.ย 
  • Own headcount planning; support incremental asks with demonstrated business value and alignment to strategic priorities
  • Build the frontline escalation protocol with structured intake, defined triggers, and feedback loops.ย 
  • Develop the Fraud Investigator's case playbooks and settlement agreement process.ย 

Measure and improveย 

  • Build the measurement infrastructure which includes labeled fraud data, false positive rate tracking, A/B testing capability, and trend analysis.ย 
  • Own the fraud incident taxonomy and conduct retroactive recoding of existing records.ย 
  • Evaluate alert calibration across all active alert types, retire controls that are not working, and implement the ones that are missing.ย 
  • Deliver monthly reporting on fraud program performance to senior leadership and IG Group in partnership with our Enterprise Risk Manager.ย 

Be the Fraud Risk business partnerย 

  • Serve as the decision maker on fraud control changes and partner with Product and Technology to design fraud controls into new product launches.ย 
  • Coordinate with our Compliance and Margin & Risk teams on shared surveillance boundaries and escalation.ย 
  • Advise our CCOs on the fraud program's interface with our AML compliance obligations.ย 

Who You Are:

  • 7+ years of fraud risk experience, with at least 3 years owning or leading a fraud function at a fintech, payments company, or digital brokerage.ย 
  • Track record of hiring and developing fraud analysts.ย 
  • Deep knowledge of ACH fraud vectors, account takeover, and first-party fraud mechanics.ย 
  • Experience with fraud analytics and data.ย 
  • Strong vendor evaluation and management skills. You have selected, implemented, and replaced fraud tooling.ย 
  • Experience defining KPIs and a fraud budget.
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with product, engineering, compliance, and legal with the credibility to hold your position during conversations where conflicting priorities surface.ย 
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and building structure where little exists.ย 
  • Willingness to obtain Series 3, 7 & 63 (or 66) licenses if not already held - tastytrade will sponsor and support the licensing process

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of BSA and FinCEN regulations and SAR requirements, FINRA Rule 3310 and Rule 3110, Nacha ACH rules, SEC Rule 15c3-3 and net capital rules.
  • CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) certification.
  • Demonstrated experience building or materially scaling a fraud program.

Base Salary Range: $120,000-$180,000ย 
The actual salary offered will be based on the candidate's level of experience and qualifications.ย
