What is a fractional project manager?

A Fractional Project Manager is a professional who provides project management services on a part-time or contract basis rather than as a full-time employee. They help organizations plan, execute, and oversee projects efficiently without the long-term commitment of a full-time hire. This role is ideal for businesses that need expert project management but may not have the workload or budget for a dedicated full-time position. Fractional Project Managers often work across multiple clients and industries, bringing diverse experience and best practices to each project.

What are the typical responsibilities of a fractional project manager on a weekly basis?

As a Fractional Project Manager, your weekly responsibilities often include coordinating project timelines, managing stakeholder communication, and overseeing deliverables across multiple client accounts. You may facilitate meetings, monitor progress using project management tools, and resolve any bottlenecks or risks that arise. Since the role is typically part-time or contract-based, balancing priorities and maintaining clear updates with each client is crucial. This structure allows you to work with a variety of businesses, gaining exposure to multiple industries while ensuring projects stay on track.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the fractional project manager position, and why are they important?

A Fractional Project Manager thrives with expertise in project management methodologies, strong organizational skills, and experience handling multiple projects for different clients or teams. Familiarity with project management software (such as Asana, Trello, or MS Project), as well as certifications like PMP or Agile/Scrum, is highly advantageous. Exceptional communication, time management, and adaptability are distinguishing soft skills in this role. These abilities are vital for efficiently managing diverse client needs, delivering projects on time, and building strong stakeholder relationships in a part-time or contract-based setting.

Description

About Our Team:

Christy Paddock Advisors, LLC is continuing to grow and has a new opening for a qualified and experienced accounting professional to join our team as a CFO Consultant. Christy Paddock Advisors has been in business since 2016, assisting organizations throughout the greater Indianapolis area with their finance and accounting needs. For more information about our business and our team of professionals, please visit our website at ChristyPaddockAdvisors.com.

About the Role:

As a CFO Consultant you will join our team of professionals to provide accounting and reporting services to various clients. You will work closely with business owners and finance teams to help streamline processes, close and reconcile financial records, manage cash, provide timely and accurate reporting, and work toward the company’s financial goals. We also help businesses buy and sell companies and complete interim, project, and assessment-based work.

Our consultants work normal business hours, experience a variety of industries, and leverage their natural curiosities and skills to make a difference. Growth and promotions are based on ability and how fast someone wants to learn, not waiting for someone to retire. Our staff is comprised of highly skilled, quick learners, with great personalities. We enjoy our work, are excited about opportunities, and have fun!

What You’ll Do:

  • Act as trusted financial advisor to CEOs/founders/leadership: develop strategy, monitor financial health, and drive performance improvement.
  • Oversee or guide the finance function of client engagements: budgeting, forecasting, cash‑flow management, KPI dashboards.
  • Implement or enhance financial controls, reporting systems and processes.
  • Conduct financial and operational analysis: identify cost savings, revenue opportunities, and efficiency gains.
  • Support funding rounds, acquisitions, or exit planning where applicable.
  • Work across multiple client engagements simultaneously, managing scope, timelines and deliverables.
  • Build relationships with clients, understand their business model, and tailor solutions accordingly.

About You:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field is required. CPA and/or MBA is preferred.
  • 8+ years of senior accounting experience, with at least 2 years in public accounting, is strongly preferred. Prior CFO, or similar, experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of improving financial performance, streamlining operations, and advising executive teams.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills—able to present complex financial information to non‑finance executives.
  • Able to work independently in a remote/fractional consulting structure, managing multiple engagements and priorities. Ability to also work as part of a team.
  • Possess a positive attitude, be able to produce our core focus, and exhibit our core values.
  • Proficient in financial systems (QuickBooks, NetSuite, Xero, etc.), AI, BI/dashboard tools and advanced Excel skills.

Why Join Us:

We’re growing rapidly and constantly evolving, allowing our team members to share their unique perspectives, solve new challenges, and own their careers. We’re committed to supporting your happiness, health, and overall well-being by providing comprehensive benefits and perks, including:

  • Dynamic and Innovative Work: An opportunity to play a critical role within a rapidly growing firm with a supportive and collaborative culture.
  • Growth Opportunities: A dynamic and supportive environment where your contributions will directly impact the firm’s growth and success and share in the rewards.

  • Competitive Compensation: A comprehensive salary and benefits package, including performance-based incentives and growth opportunities.
