An FPL (Full Performance Level) job refers to a position where the employee has reached the highest level of responsibility and competency within their job classification. It often means the individual has completed necessary training, probationary periods, or promotions to perform all duties independently. These positions are commonly found in government and utility sectors, such as Florida Power & Light (FPL), where employees may work in engineering, customer service, or field operations.

What does an FPL do?

As an FPL, your daily responsibilities include creating and filing flight plans, reviewing weather conditions, coordinating with pilots and air traffic control, and ensuring all necessary documentation complies with aviation regulations. You may also monitor in-flight progress, provide updates about potential routing changes, and troubleshoot issues as they arise. The role requires frequent collaboration with dispatchers, operations managers, and maintenance teams to ensure safe and efficient flight schedules. Staying organized and proactive is important, as situations can change quickly based on weather or airspace restrictions. This dynamic environment makes each day varied and requires a combination of technical knowledge and clear communication.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an FPL?

To thrive as an FPL (Flight Planning Liaison), you need a strong background in aviation operations, attention to detail, and knowledge of flight planning procedures, often supported by education in aviation or related certifications. Proficiency with flight planning software, air traffic control systems, and weather analysis tools is essential. Excellent communication, problem-solving abilities, and a customer-focused attitude are valuable soft skills in this role. These skills ensure safe, efficient, and regulatory-compliant flight operations while effectively supporting pilots and airline teams.
