Fpl Apprentice Lineman Program Jobs in Indiana (NOW HIRING)

Qualifications required: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Strong verbal communication skills are necessary to effectively interact with a wide range of personalities both inside and outside the organization. A valid Indiana driver's license and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) are required. A current utility lineworker climbing certification from a recognized lineworker training program is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist in the construction of new overhead and underground services and service upgrades (Single-phase; three-phase; double-circuit, energized or de-energized).

2. Assist linemen in restoring overhead and underground outages.

3. Assist linemen in solving power quality issues.

4. Assist linemen in maintaining existing overhead and underground line.

5. Assist linemen in performing line patrol.

6. Responsible for following all safety policies and procedures.

7. All duties and responsibilities of "Groundsman" position

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Dig pole and anchor holes; frame and set poles and anchors; install guy wire, sag and tie-in

conductors.

2. Assist with installation of transformers, switches, voltage regulators, oil circuit-reclosers,

capacitors, meters, and other electrical apparatus.

3. Assist with yard-light and street-light maintenance and installation.

4. Install service. Connect, disconnect, and reconnect as assigned.

5. Assist with relocating, rebuilding, and adding poles on existing lines

6. Assist with cutting in double-end for two-way feeds and replacing lightning arresters and guys, on energized or de-energized lines.

7. Replace and repair service drops, as directed.

8. Read, change, install and seal meters, as assigned.

9. Perform periodic stand-by duty.

10. Observe the electric distribution-feeds and circuits in order to become familiar with the system.

11. Trim trees and cut brush on right-of-way for new construction or existing line, as assigned.

12. Complete outage reports; material tickets; connect; reconnect; or disconnect orders, as required or directed.

13. Operate equipment as needed (winch truck, bucket, etc.)

14. Complete related study units as outlined in Lineman's Training Program.

15. Perform other work related activities as requested by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES – 4 Year Program

1. Must be willing to work overtime and to be on standby as required.

2. Must be dependable. Must have good record of attendance and punctuality.

3. Must be physically able to work in a safe and proper manner.

4. Must have a basic knowledge of electricity, pole-line materials, the proper and safe use of tools and equipment used in line construction and maintenance.

5. Must be proficient in pole-top and bucket rescue procedures.

6. Should possess the ability to climb poles and exercise proper and safe use of hand-tools while working on a pole, under strict supervision.

7. Must be CPR and First Aid certified

8. Must have or obtain and maintain a valid CDL Drivers License with an air brake endorsement and meet all D.O.T. requirements

9. Must have basic computer skills.

10. Must be familiar with all company policies and procedures.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position requires that the individual load and unload vehicles, travel to and from job sites, and perform maintenance and construction activities on power distribution lines. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to:

1. Frequently – see, talk, hear, walk, sit, stand, use hands to finger, handle, write, feel and reach with hands and arms.

2. Occasionally – stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, balance, crawl, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is mostly outside in close proximity to hot line construction and maintenance and energized conductors in varying weather conditions; and is exposed to the hazards of electrical shock and burns as well as to falls. Position requires travel throughout the service area. Work regularly scheduled Monday-Friday, although weekends and after hours may be required to meet deadlines or address distribution problems
