What is the difference between Founding Director vs Program Manager?

AspectFounding DirectorProgram Manager
Required CredentialsTypically advanced degrees, leadership experience, industry knowledgeRelevant bachelor’s or master’s degree, project management certifications often preferred
Work EnvironmentLeadership role in startup or new organization, strategic planningOversees specific projects within organizations, operational focus
Employer & Industry UsageFounding organizations, startups, nonprofitsVarious industries, including nonprofits, corporate sectors, government

The Founding Director is a high-level leadership role responsible for establishing and guiding a new organization or initiative, often requiring strategic vision and industry expertise. In contrast, a Program Manager focuses on managing specific projects within an organization, ensuring they meet goals and deadlines. While both roles require strong organizational skills, the Founding Director has broader responsibilities related to organizational development and leadership.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a founding director, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Founding Director, you need strong leadership skills, strategic vision, and a solid background in business development or a relevant industry, often supported by advanced degrees or entrepreneurial experience. Familiarity with budgeting software, project management tools, and legal compliance systems is typically required. Exceptional communication, resilience, and the ability to inspire and motivate teams are standout soft skills in this role. These capabilities are crucial for setting organizational direction, driving growth, and establishing a strong foundation for long-term success.

What are some of the unique challenges a founding director faces when building and leading a new organization?

As a Founding Director, one of the main challenges is balancing strategic vision with hands-on operational duties, since you are often responsible for both setting long-term goals and managing daily operations. Building a strong team from the ground up and establishing a positive organizational culture require significant effort and adaptability. Additionally, securing funding and cultivating stakeholder relationships are crucial in the early stages, often demanding persistent networking and resourcefulness. Founding Directors also need to be comfortable adapting quickly to change, as early-stage organizations frequently pivot in response to market feedback or unforeseen obstacles.

BBehavior

Orlando, FL • On-site

Medical, Dental, Vision, PTO

Job description

BBehavior Autism Services was founded with a clear mission: to redefine what quality Applied Behavior Analysis care looks like for children, families, and the professionals who deliver it.

Build More Than a Caseload. Build a Legacy.

What if your next BCBA position were more than another job?

What if it were an opportunity to help build an ABA organization from the beginning and become one of the leaders shaping its future?

At BBehavior Autism Services, we are not simply hiring BCBAs. We are building a founding clinical team that will help define our culture, influence our clinical standards, and support the development of future BBehavior locations throughout Florida.

If you know you have leadership potential and are ready for an organization to invest in your growth, this may be the opportunity you have been waiting for.

Most ABA companies hire BCBAs to manage caseloads.

We are hiring clinicians who want to help build a company.

Our founding BCBAs will have opportunities to help shape:

  • Clinical systems and standards
  • Company culture
  • Training and mentorship programs
  • Technology and clinical workflows
  • Future clinic operations
  • Leadership development
  • The next generation of Clinical Directors

The clinicians who help us build today may become the leaders who help us grow tomorrow.

The Role

As a Founding BCBA, you will provide high-quality clinical services while helping shape the clinical foundation of BBehavior Autism Services.

This role is ideal for a BCBA who is excited about joining a growing startup, contributing ideas, influencing company culture, and preparing for future leadership opportunities as we expand throughout Central Florida, Tampa, and Sarasota.

Because we are building from the ground up, this position is best suited for someone who is adaptable, proactive, collaborative, and comfortable contributing beyond the responsibilities of a traditional caseload-based BCBA role.

High-performing founding clinicians may have opportunities to advance into positions such as Clinical Supervisor, Clinical Director, Regional Clinical Director, or other clinical leadership roles as the organization grows.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct assessments and develop individualized treatment plans
  • Supervise, train, and mentor RBTs and BCaBAs
  • Monitor client progress and adjust programming using data-driven decision-making
  • Collaborate with families, schools, and interdisciplinary providers
  • Ensure compliance with BACB ethical standards and payer requirements
  • Contribute to the development of clinical systems, training programs, and best practices
  • Help build a positive and collaborative culture that supports families and teammates
  • Participate in quality improvement and future leadership initiatives

Who We Are Looking For

You may be an excellent fit if you:

  • Are a Board Certified Behavior Analyst in good standing
  • Hold, or are eligible to obtain, Florida licensure
  • Have at least two years of BCBA experience
  • Enjoy mentoring and supporting other clinicians
  • Value ethical, family-centered care
  • Believe collaboration leads to better outcomes
  • Have an entrepreneurial and solutions-focused mindset
  • Want to help build something from the ground up
  • Aspire to become a Clinical Director or other clinical leader in the near future

Current Clinical Directors who are open to joining a growing organization in a hands-on BCBA role, with the potential to advance as the company expands, are also encouraged to apply.

What We Offer

We are committed to investing in clinicians who want to grow with us.

  • Competitive salary based on experience
  • Performance and growth bonuses
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off and paid holidays
  • CEU reimbursement and professional development support
  • Flexible scheduling with hybrid administrative work
  • Manageable caseloads and strong clinical support
  • Opportunities to help shape clinical systems and company culture
  • A defined leadership development pathway toward future Clinical Director and regional leadership opportunities

Apply today to join a mission-driven team dedicated to improving the lives of children and families while building a better future for ABA professionals.
