As of Jun 16, 2026, the average yearly pay for forward deployment engineer in Colorado is $115,205.00, according to ZipRecruiter salary data. Most workers in this role earn between $84,600.00 and $145,600.00 per year, depending on experience, location, and employer.

How does a Forward Deployment Engineer typically collaborate with clients and internal teams during a project?

Forward Deployment Engineers often serve as a bridge between clients and internal engineering or product teams. They work closely with clients to understand their unique requirements, configure solutions, and ensure successful deployments, frequently traveling to client sites. Internally, they collaborate with engineers, product managers, and support staff to relay client feedback, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance. This role requires excellent communication skills and adaptability, as each project may involve different stakeholders and technical challenges.

What is the difference between Forward Deployment Engineer vs Network Engineer?

AspectForward Deployment EngineerNetwork Engineer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in CS, EE, or related; certifications like CCNA, Cisco, or cloud certificationsBachelor's in CS, EE, or related; certifications like CCNA, CompTIA Network+
Work EnvironmentOn-site deployments, fieldwork, client sites, and data centersOffice-based, network infrastructure setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting
Industry UsageTech, telecom, cloud providers, hardware vendorsIT, telecom, enterprise networks, service providers

While both roles require networking knowledge and certifications like CCNA, Forward Deployment Engineers focus on deploying and supporting hardware and systems directly at client sites, often involving fieldwork. Network Engineers primarily design, implement, and maintain network infrastructure within organizations. The roles overlap in certifications and industry usage but differ in work environment and deployment focus.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Forward Deployment Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Forward Deployment Engineer, you need strong analytical and problem-solving skills, a solid foundation in computer science or engineering, and relevant experience or a degree in these fields. Familiarity with programming languages (such as Python or Java), cloud platforms, and deployment/configuration management tools is typically required, along with knowledge of client-facing software solutions. Outstanding communication, adaptability, and teamwork skills help you understand client needs and collaborate effectively across teams. These skills ensure successful implementation and integration of complex software solutions in diverse client environments.

What are Forward Deployment Engineers?

Forward Deployment Engineers (FDEs) are technical professionals who work directly with clients to implement, customize, and deploy software solutions. They act as a bridge between engineering teams and customers, ensuring that products are successfully integrated into the client's environment and tailored to meet their specific needs. FDEs typically handle a mix of software engineering, problem-solving, and client-facing responsibilities, often traveling to customer sites to provide on-the-ground support. Their role is essential for organizations that offer complex technical products requiring hands-on deployment and adaptation.

Job description

Company Overview
ZutaCore is a leader in waterless, direct-to-chip liquid cooling solutions for AI and high-
performance computing workloads. Powered by its patented two-phase ZutaCoreยฎ
HyperCoolยฎ technology, ZutaCore removes heat directly at the processor through a sealed, closed-loop system-eliminating water use, reducing energy consumption by up to 82%, and enabling significantly higher compute density. By overcoming power and thermal constraints, ZutaCore helps data centers scale AI performance, unlock
operational savings, and advance sustainability across digital infrastructure.
Why Join ZutaCore?
At ZutaCore, you'll be part of a forward-thinking team helping define the future of AI and high-performance computing infrastructure through innovative, waterless liquid cooling technology. This hybrid field role offers flexibility, meaningful ownership, and the opportunity to directly influence how cutting-edge solutions are positioned and adopted across some of the world's most demanding compute environments.
What you'll do
As a Mechanical Deployment Engineer, you will deliver hands-on deployment of
ZutaCore solutions in customers' Data Centers and provide remote and onsite expert support to facilitate timely resolution of technical product/solution issues. We are looking for a highly skilled professional to lead the physical installation, retrofitting, and field service of our cooling solutions. The ideal candidate would possess a strong mechanical background in HVAC and fluid-handling, alongside a deep understanding of server hardware components, to safely integrate our cooling technology directly into high-density computing environments.
Primary Responsibilities
Mechanical Deployment & Hardware Integration
  • Perform hardware retrofit, rack installation, and connectivity (power, water, network).
  • Coordinate with facilities and third-party partners (as required), e.g., OxM servers, racks, facilities power, water, and networking.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive deployment plans, actively managing project timelines, internal and subcontractor resource allocation, hardware requirements, and site prerequisites.
  • Provide technical solutions, architecture and corresponding collateral: layouts, drawings, configurations, specs, calculations, product specifications, development and testing plans.
  • Manage system commissioning and decommissioning processes, ensuring all Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP) are strictly followed, and testing results are accurately recorded and securely stored in the designated repository.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with internal teams to ensure complete readiness for deployment and site visits, validating that equipment availability, shipping schedules, and site prerequisites align with project outcomes for on-time system installation, and tracking any discrepancies to resolution.
  • Develop, update, and maintain standardized installation documentation, "as-built" records, and deployment plans to ensure consistency and quality across all customer deployments.

Field Service & System Troubleshooting
  • Deliver timely and accurate remote and onsite technical support for deployed ZutaCore solutions.
  • Log all calls and Customer Support Activities promptly upon acknowledgment and receipt in the Support automation software.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Engineering, Integration, and program management to generate plans and manage the execution of solutions for identified issues.
  • Replicate issues in the lab (as available) and maintain detailed records (support cases) of reported issues, including photos and videos provided by partners or customers.
  • Act as a key technical liaison between the field and internal cross-functional teams (including R&D, Solution Architecture, and Account Management) to ensure prompt communication of issues and alignment on technical resolutions.
  • Partner with Operations, Logistics, and other support groups to provide field-level input for the continuous improvement and establishment of global deployment, support, and repair processes.

Experience and Qualifications
  • Education: High School Diploma (Preferred: BS degree in Mechanical Engineering) or 4 years of equivalent experience.
  • Certifications: Certifications in HVAC are a plus. EPA Universal Certification is not required. A proven desire to learn, expand your skill set, and continue earning relevant professional credentials is highly valued.
  • MEP & Data Center Infrastructure: Minimum of 4 years' experience with hands-on working knowledge across Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems. This includes facility water loops, chillers, CRAC units, CRAH units, and their integration within data center cooling infrastructure, as well as working knowledge of electrical power systems, including voltage, phase, current (amperage), and power distribution.
  • Hardware Retrofitting & Thermal Management: Understanding of data center hardware components, layout, airflow design, and power delivery. Experience with modern high-density compute systems, and familiarity with CPU/socket configurations, GPU integration, PCIe expansion, and mechanical constraints related to thermal and power modifications. Direct technical or mechanical experience with liquid cooling systems is a strong plus.
  • IT Familiarity: General working knowledge of basic server and rack operations (e.g., physical racking, basic cabling, and powering up systems). Familiarity with Linux operating systems (installation, configuration) is a plus, but not required.
  • Professional Skills: Detail-oriented with strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
