Position Summary

The Structural Carpenter is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing concrete formwork and structural components for bridge, drainage, and heavy highway projects. This includes work on catch basins, scuppers, headwalls, culverts, and other roadway structures. This is a hands-on role requiring precision, strong formwork knowledge, and a commitment to safety in a fast-paced construction environment.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Build, set, and strip concrete forms for bridges, headwalls, catch basins, scuppers, culverts, retaining walls, and other heavy highway structures
  • Interpret blueprints, project plans, and specifications to ensure accurate layout and construction
  • Measure, cut, and assemble wood and metal formwork for concrete placement
  • Install shoring, bracing, and falsework to support structural components during construction
  • Assist with concrete pours, including placement, consolidation, and finishing support
  • Ensure all work meets project specifications, grade requirements, and quality standards
  • Inspect completed work to verify structural integrity and compliance
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and materials in safe and working condition
  • Work closely with superintendents, foremen, and crews to meet production goals and schedules
  • Follow all KE&G safety policies and procedures with a strong focus on hazard recognition and prevention
What We’re Looking For
  • Experience in structural or heavy-civil carpentry, specifically in bridges, drainage structures, or roadway construction preferred
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and grade stakes
  • Strong knowledge of concrete formwork systems, layout, and heavy highway construction methods
  • Skilled in the use of hand and power tools related to carpentry
  • Understanding of construction safety practices and OSHA standards
  • Strong work ethic and ability to perform in a team-oriented environment

  • This position operates at professional construction sites, requiring the ability to communicate with verbally others on site, in person and over the telephone, ability to read printed materials, signs and directions, stamina to maintain attention despite interruptions, ability to lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects, supplies, tools, machinery and/or controls weighing up to 50 pounds and reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse around or otherwise position one's self around the required work and safety requirements to navigating and perform activities on various construction sites in a safe manner.
  • Will be required to work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment and other tools within local, state and federal safety guidelines.
  • This position operates in a professional field environment. The position requires working outside, frequently for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
  • While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, virus or other air-borne pathogens, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines and dust/debris.
