Job description

A Place Where People Matter.

Start your career journey with Univar Solutions!  Here you can make an impact on the world around you and accelerate your career in areas that energize and excite you.

The Formulation & Technical Data Specialist is responsible for gathering, loading, validating, and maintaining formulation data and technical documentation that powers Univar Solutions' Formulation Intelligence capabilities. This role goes beyond individual product data to encompass the full depth of formulation science, capturing not only which chemical products are combined in a given formulation, but how those components should be combined, processed, and applied to achieve a specific technical outcome.

Working with both supplier-provided and internally developed formulations, this specialist ensures that formulation records are complete, technically accurate, and current. They validate formulation data after it has been processed and embedded in schema for use by the Formulation Intelligence module within our Product Intelligence tool and proactively maintain documentation freshness to reflect the latest formulation guidance. This role also supports formulation data governance and assists with the collection of internal formulation content.

The ideal candidate brings deep, hands-on knowledge of chemistry and formulation science, with a genuine understanding of how chemical components interact, how processing conditions influence outcomes, and how formulations serve specific technical applications across industries. They are analytically rigorous, detail-oriented, and equally comfortable working directly with supplier technical contacts and internal commercial and R&D stakeholders.

What youll do:

  • Gather formulation data and technical documentation from suppliers, including formulation compositions, component ratios, processing parameters, and application guidance
  • Collect and catalog internal (Univar) formulations, ensuring complete and accurate records of component products, combination methods, processing instructions, and intended technical applications
  • Load formulation data and supporting documentation for use within the Formulation Intelligence module in accordance with established data standards and processes
  • Validate formulation data after it is scrubbed and embedded in schema, confirming accuracy of chemical components, proportions, processing steps, and technical parameters for use by the Formulation Intelligence module
  • Maintain formulation documentation to ensure ongoing freshness and technical correctness, proactively identifying and refreshing outdated records even in the absence of a formal expiration date
  • Monitor for product authorizations and deauthorizations affecting internal and external formulation data and update documentation to ensure formulations maximize portfolio product inclusion
  • Support formulation data governance by establishing and enforcing data standards, classification frameworks, and quality policies across the formulation data lifecycle
  • Partner with internal stakeholders, including commercial, technical sales, and R&D teams, to gather and verify internal formulation data and proprietary documentation
  • Validate the quality and integrity of formulation-related content within the Formulation Intelligence module, identifying gaps, inconsistencies, or technical inaccuracies and coordinating resolution
  • Support the rollout and adoption of the Formulation Intelligence module within the Product Intelligence tool across regions as formulation content expands, including participation in training delivery and user onboarding
  • Support formulation intelligence module training to new hires, ensuring they can effectively leverage formulation data for customer-facing technical conversations

What youll need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related scientific discipline
  • 2-4 years of experience in a chemistry or chemical industry role, with direct exposure to formulation science or applied chemistry
  • Intimate knowledge of chemical formulations, including component selection, combination methods, processing conditions, and how formulation variables influence technical performance
  • Strong understanding of how formulations are developed and applied to accomplish specific technical purposes across a range of industries and end-use applications
  • Ability to read, interpret, and evaluate technical documentation including formulation sheets, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), Technical Data Sheets (TDS), and processing guides
  • Strong attention to detail with a rigorous commitment to data accuracy, completeness, and technical integrity
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to engage credibly with supplier technical contacts and internal scientific and commercial stakeholders
  • Laboratory or applied formulation experience-hands-on work with blending, compounding, or processing chemical formulations preferred
  • Familiarity with formulation practices in relevant end markets such as coatings, adhesives, personal care, pharma, industrial cleaning, or food and beverage preferred
  • Experience with Product Information Management (PIM) systems or similar documentation and data management platforms preferred
  • Background in data entry, data validation, or data quality assurance roles preferred
  • Exposure to chemical distribution, specialty chemicals, or raw material supply chains preferred
  • Experience delivering technical training content for commercial or sales audiences preferred
  •

Where youll work:

  • Hybrid opportunity for candidates based in Houston, TX or Dublin, OH.
