They lead teams to design, test, and refine product mixtures to meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. Their role often involves coordinating with research, production, and quality assurance departments to ensure that product formulations are effective, stable, and cost-efficient. Formulation Managers also stay updated on industry trends and regulatory changes to keep their company's products competitive. Job description

Associate Formulation Chemist
Reports To: Vice President of Product Sales
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Summary
Envirde is seeking an Associate Formulation Chemist to help establish and grow our formulation and product development capabilities. This position will support the testing, development, and improvement of herbicide formulations, surfactants, adjuvants, and specialty chemical products used in vegetation management and agricultural markets.
The successful candidate will play a key role in helping design and establish our formulation laboratory, develop testing protocols, troubleshoot product compatibility issues, and support our growing custom blending operation.
This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated chemist who enjoys solving technical challenges and wants to be part of building something from the ground up. As the company grows, this position offers significant opportunities for increased responsibility, professional development, and technical leadership.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Exemplify Envirde's core values of Safety, Others, Integrity, Initiative, and Passion.
  • Conduct compatibility testing of herbicides, adjuvants, surfactants, fertilizers, and other chemical products.
  • Evaluate product stability and identify solutions for separation, settling, crystallization, precipitation, foaming, viscosity changes, and emulsion instability.
  • Assist in the development and improvement of proprietary surfactants, adjuvants, and specialty chemical formulations.
  • Perform laboratory testing including pH analysis, viscosity measurements, centrifuge testing, freeze-thaw evaluations, and accelerated aging studies.
  • Research raw materials, formulation technologies, and product opportunities that support company growth objectives.
  • Assist in developing laboratory procedures, testing methods, and quality standards.
  • Maintain accurate laboratory records, test data, and technical documentation.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts for blending, manufacturing, and product performance issues.
  • Assist with product specifications, technical bulletins, safety documentation, and customer support materials.
  • Collaborate with operations, sales, and management teams to support customer needs and product development initiatives.
  • Stay current on industry trends, formulation technologies, and best practices related to agricultural and vegetation management products.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Success Looks Like
Within the first 12 months, the successful candidate will:
  • Help establish Envirde's formulation laboratory and recommend equipment, supplies, and testing capabilities.
  • Develop standardized compatibility and stability testing procedures.
  • Build a database of formulation, compatibility, and performance data.
  • Become a technical resource for the company's custom blending operation.
  • Assist in identifying opportunities for proprietary surfactant and adjuvant products.
  • Contribute to improving the stability, performance, and consistency of existing blend products.

Qualifications
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Agricultural Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Strong laboratory skills and understanding of scientific testing methods.
  • Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.

Preferred
  • Internship, undergraduate research, or work experience involving chemistry, formulation, product development, or agricultural chemicals.
  • Knowledge of surfactants, emulsions, suspensions, and solution chemistry.
  • Familiarity with laboratory equipment and testing procedures.
  • Understanding of herbicides, adjuvants, fertilizers, or specialty chemicals.
  • Experience collecting, analyzing, and reporting scientific data.

Recent graduates with strong academic performance, laboratory experience, and a desire to build a career in formulation chemistry are encouraged to apply.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, squat, reach, and perform laboratory activities for extended periods.
  • Ability to work in laboratory, warehouse, and field environments.
  • Ability to work safely around chemicals while following established safety procedures.

Why Join Envirde?
This is not a traditional laboratory position.
At Envirde, you will have the opportunity to help build a formulation and product development program from the ground up. You will work directly with company leadership to establish laboratory capabilities, solve real-world formulation challenges, and support the development of products that serve customers throughout the vegetation management and agricultural industries.
The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in formulation science, product development, manufacturing support, and technical problem solving while helping shape the future direction of a growing business.
