Human Milk & Formula Technician

Job Summary

The Human Milk & Formula Technician is responsible for the safe receipt, storage, preparation, distribution, inventory and management of enteral nutrition (human milk, formula, additives). The Human Milk and Formula Technician adheres to preparation techniques in accordance with the infection control, sanitation and quality standards and regulations established by regulatory agencies and Grady policies and procedures. This position reports to the NICU clinical manager. The Technician will interact with NICU staff including physicians, nurses, unit clerks and the Clinical Nutrition department including Registered Dietitian.

Responsibilities:
  • Safely and accurately prepares, delivers and stores human milk and enteral formulas: verifies and reconciles orders using computer systems, ensures proper product labeling, utilizes standardized recipes, accurately measures powders and liquids, adheres to quality control standards and procedures.
  • Maintains sanitation in the preparation area including: follows aseptic technique, follows department and infection control policies, maintains daily appearance and personal hygiene.
  • Inventories and maintains sufficient stock. Receives, inspects and tracks human milk and enteral formulas. Participates in ordering accurate amounts of donor milk, formula and additives.
  • Prepares and maintains multiple logs.
  • Communicate with NICU team for questions or concerns about any aspect of Technician responsibilities. Utilizes the chain of command. Maintains professionalism. Incorporates customer service during interactions with NICU team, peers and NICU families.
  • Participates in regulatory surveys/activities, performance improvement projects (including data collection) and training new technicians.
Qualifications:
  • 1+ years of experience in clinical lab technician, formula room and/or milk lab.
  • Associates in nutrition preferred
