Job Title: Caregiver.
General Description: Caregivers are responsible for the direct care and supervision of all facility residents on each work shift. They provide direct care and supervision as indicated in the residents’ physician’s report and care plan. The caregivers can be assigned other job duties as determined by the Administrator.
Days and Hours on Duty: Part-time/Full-time.
Caregiver duties and responsibilities:
  • All Caregivers implement the daily routine for each resident under the direction of the administrator.
  • This will include the resident’s personal care, medication management, resident activities, food preparation, meal service, and any required recordkeeping and documentation.

Caregivers on the PM shift focus their duties as follows:
  • Assist with resident activities as scheduled, meal preparation, medication management, housekeeping/laundry as directed by the administrator, and any required recordkeeping and documentation.
  • After hours: The staff is awake and on duty on the night shift for resident assistance and or care as needed as well as other assignments as given by the administrator.
  • Note: All caregivers have been trained and possess the skills and knowledge to perform the listed duties and responsibilities during their shifts.

Direct personal resident services:
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living such as showering, dressing, and escort services as needed.
  • Ensure residents get down to meals in the dining room or have tray service if temporarily unable to leave room for meals.
  • If required, change linens, and towels and ensure the resident’s personal laundry is done.
  • Regularly observe residents and will report any changes in condition to the Administrator.
  • Report and document any incidents or occurrences to the next shift.
  • Check on residents on a regular basis or as indicated on the resident care plan.
  • Assist with incontinent care and adhere to bowel and bladder training as indicated in the resident care plan.
  • Can administer first aid as needed.
  • Assist with incontinent care and adhere to bowel and bladder training schedules as indicated in the resident’s service plan.

General duties and responsibilities:
  • Ensure that the facility house rules are implemented and maintained.
  • Residents’ personal property is safeguarded properly.
  • Always adheres to infection control and prevention.
  • Residents’ personal rights are always observed and never violated at any time.
  • Report any observed or alleged elder abuse to the administrator.
  • Recognize any change in the resident and immediately notify the administrator.
  • Notify the administrator of any hazards or safety issues in the facility, and inside or out.
  • Notify the administrator when facility and residents’ supplies are running low.
  • Respond to emergency situations professionally and calmly.

Caregiver qualifications:
  • Has verifiable experience providing direct care to the elderly.
  • Have valid former employer references and/or letter of recommendation.
  • Possesses a valid and current driver’s license.
  • Completed required first aid training and possess a valid and current first aid card.
  • Obtains CPR training as directed by the administrator.
  • Can read, speak, and understand English and follow oral and written instructions.
  • Is at least 18 years of age. (To be verified by proper documents).
  • Participated in required and appropriate job training.
  • Obtained required criminal clearance prior to employment.
  • Obtained the required health screening and TB clearance prior to employment.
  • The health screening and TB test results will not be older than 6 months.
  • Has good physical and mental health and can perform all assigned duties and tasks.
  • Possesses knowledge of both housekeeping and sanitation principles.
  • Can communicate with other workers, family, and skilled professionals providing service to residents.
  • Possesses the knowledge necessary to recognize early signs and symptoms of resident illness and distress.
  • Knows when to notify the administrator or call for professional assistance.
  • Displays a pleasant personality and displays concern and compassion to residents.
  • Demonstrates the understanding of resident rights.
  • Is pro-active to report to the administrator any issues and problems at the facility.
  • Always maintains a professional attitude.
