What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Forging Technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Forging Technician, you need a solid understanding of metallurgy, blueprint reading, and mechanical aptitude, typically gained through vocational training or an apprenticeship. Familiarity with forging presses, furnaces, CNC machinery, and quality control systems is essential, along with relevant safety certifications. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities help ensure precision and safe operation in a demanding environment. These skills are crucial for producing high-quality forged components while maintaining safety and efficiency in manufacturing settings.

What are some common challenges faced by forging professionals and how can they be addressed in the workplace?

Forging professionals often encounter challenges such as maintaining precise temperature control, ensuring consistent product quality, and managing heavy machinery safely. These challenges are typically addressed through ongoing training, strict adherence to safety protocols, and collaboration with quality assurance teams. Many workplaces also invest in advanced monitoring equipment and encourage open communication among team members to quickly identify and resolve issues. By fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement, forging professionals can mitigate risks and maintain high production standards.

What are forging jobs?

Forging jobs involve shaping metal using compressive forces, often with the help of hammers, presses, or dies. Workers in forging roles are responsible for heating metal to a pliable state and then forming it into desired shapes for use in manufacturing, construction, automotive, or aerospace industries. These jobs require physical strength, attention to safety, and knowledge of metal properties. Common positions include forge operators, blacksmiths, and die setters.

What is the difference between Forging vs Machining?

AspectForgingMachining
Primary ProcessShaping metal through compressive forces using hammers or pressesRemoving material from a workpiece using cutting tools
Work EnvironmentFactories or workshops with heavy machineryMachine shops, manufacturing facilities, or precision labs
Required SkillsKnowledge of forging techniques, metallurgy, and equipment operationPrecision measurement, tool operation, and material removal techniques
Common CertificationsNone specific, but metallurgy knowledge beneficialMachining certifications like CNC or precision machining

Forging and machining are both essential manufacturing processes but differ significantly. Forging involves shaping metal through compressive forces, creating strong, durable parts, often in heavy industrial settings. Machining, on the other hand, removes material to achieve precise dimensions and finishes. While forging emphasizes forming and strength, machining focuses on precision and detail. Both roles require specialized skills and are vital in manufacturing industries.

Job description

Who we are.

We are a boutique financial and management consulting firm empowering business leaders to achieve greater financial success. At Forge, we work with small business owners and nonprofit leaders to proactively plan for the future and accurately account for the past. We take time to understand our client's needs and guide them towards achieving their goals through thoughtful explanations, valuable insights, and practical solutions. We're proud to provide small businesses and nonprofit organizations what they need to make smart financial decisions so they can thrive and reach their goals.

As a team, we pursue our purpose every day by living our six core values:

  • People First. We leverage our individual strengths to do more together than we could alone.
  • Be Better. We constantly strive to grow and improve; to be better than we were before.
Integrity. We do what's right & follow through. Even when it's not the easiest or most popular choice.
Genuine. We are authentic and approachable. We sincerely desire to be kind and helpful.
  • Own It. We take responsibility, we take initiative, and we figure things out.
Passion. We love what we do. We don't just work with numbers; we work with people.

What makes us different.

It's no secret that in the world of finance and accounting, the life you've always dreamed of living can be taken over by the demands of your career. Long hours and regular over-night travel begin to zap your energy. Forced days in the office leave you with little to no flexibility to balance work and life priorities. You work harder and longer to keep up, but never seem to get ahead.

At Forge, we believe you can win at work and in life. Experience your finance and accounting career the Forge way:

  • Our flexible culture allows our team to live a lifestyle that balances career responsibilities and personal commitments.
  • We strive for a standard 40-hour work week and cap our busy season at 50. We know working too much is counterproductive. That's why we equip our team to work smarter, not harder.
  • At Forge, you'll focus on creating value for our clients; not tracking billable hours.
  • Our team's travel schedule is light. When our team travels, it is generally a day trip or single overnight stay.
  • We embrace virtual work by giving team members the opportunity to blend both in-office and remote work.

Who we're looking for.

An early-career professional with an accounting background who aligns to our values and is seeking a culture that enables the double win - a rewarding career and a rewarding life. If you're ready to work smarter (not harder) while contributing to the success of our team and our clients - consider Forging Ahead with us.

What you'll do.

  • Prepare financial statements, management letters, and audit reports in accordance with professional and firm standards
  • Use knowledge and ability to apply generally accepted accounting principles ("GAAP")
  • Complete audit and review assignments under the general supervision of managers and partners
  • Perform substantive procedures and tests of controls
  • Work with clients to identify opportunities for improvement
  • Deliver high quality, accurate and timely outcomes for the firm and our clients
  • Develop quality client relationships and partner to best serve their needs
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
  • Travel occasionally (same-day) for work at clients, firm meetings or seminars

What you'll need.

  • A strong alignment and willingness to consistently demonstrate Forge's core values.
  • Bachelor's degree required. Accounting degree strongly preferred; will consider Finance degree if paired with Accounting minor.
  • CPA or eligibility to sit for CPA exam is preferred.
  • Entry level or up to 3 years prior experience (which may include internship experience)
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Power Point, Excel, Teams, Share Point, etc) and the ability to stay ahead of the curve with continual technology advancements.
  • Business and financial statement analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated high level of discretion and confidentiality
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Growth mindset required.
  • Ability to execute and effectively collaborate virtually.

What you'll experience.

At Forge, we believe doing great work goes hand in hand with living a great life. Here, you'll experience:

  • Meaningful work. We are passionate about helping small businesses and nonprofits thrive, and every member of the Forge team makes a positive impact on the clients we serve.
  • Flexibility and autonomy. We trust our team to make the expected contributions of the role, and we treat you like the professional adult you are. You do your part to embrace the responsibility that comes with the job, and we'll monitor your contributions and collaboration, not the clock. Enjoy the flexibility to adjust start and stop times or the extent to which you work in the office or virtually.
  • Personal and professional development. We're passionate about growing each member of our team. You'll have access to training and development that advance your technical skills, but perhaps more importantly, you'll enjoy training and development opportunities that grow capabilities that positively impact your life and your work, including productivity management, prioritization, goal creation, Enneagram, and Kolbe.
  • Work-life balance. At Forge, work-life balance isn't a luxury - it's a necessity. We believe working too many hours is counterproductive, so we work smarter, not harder. We invest in the Full Focus productivity system for every team member, which includes training and quarterly planners. And, you'll experience a culture that is intentional about setting boundaries that help you have a great career without sacrificing what's most important in your personal life.
  • Dress for your day. We have a flexible dress code that allows our team to dress for the appointments on their calendar each day. We encourage jeans and business casual attire.

And, of course - competitive pay and a comprehensive benefits package including:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage
  • 401K, including employer contribution
  • 5 weeks of Paid Time Off annually
  • Paid Parental Leave (for new moms and dads)
  • 9 Paid Holidays
  • Paid Holiday Week of Rest (Forge is closed the week of Christmas)
  • Short Term Disability
  • Long Term Disability
  • Life Insurance, and more
