Entity: Owensboro Health Regional Hospital | Department: Emergency | Work Hours: Variable Hours | Weekend Requirements: As Needed | 0.0 FTE

Job Summary:

Evaluates and cares for victims of assault, domestic abuse, child and elder abuse, neglect and sexual crimes by providing direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Implements and monitors patient care plans.

  • Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.

  • Serves as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.

  • Notes and carries out physician and nursing orders.

  • Assesses and coordinates patient's discharge planning needs with patient/family and members of the healthcare team.

  • Assesses learning needs of patient and family and provides education based on age, culture, and willingness to learn.

  • Performs job duties in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act.

  • Performs and documents sexual assault medical forensic interviews/exams accurately and timely.

  • Performs a complete medical forensic evaluation.

  • Participates in community awareness and outreach projects as needed and directed by leadership and program coordinator.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Requires critical thinking skills and decisive judgment.

  • Works under general supervision.

  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

  • Applies more advanced skills and knowledge in the area of specialization.

Position Requirements:

Work Experience

  • A minimum of 1 year relevant experience required

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Nursing required upon hire

Additional Education Information

  • None

Licensure/Certification/Registration

  • RN - Licensed as a Registered Nurse. Eligible to practice nursing in the State of Kentucky required upon hire AND

  • KY SANE - Kentucky Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) credential from Kentucky Board of Nursing (KBN) required upon hire AND

  • BLS - Certified as a Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider required within 45 days of employment in this position
