Job description

Fall 2025 Term
ABC House is looking for a Family Advocate Intern to join our Assessment team. This internship is in-person and will last for the duration of your university's internship program. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and is enrolled in an undergraduate program in a field related to social work. Our internship program provides an opportunity for students to gain experience working with children and families through a trauma lens and a direct application of advocacy services. The goal of advocacy services is to minimize trauma from the assessment process on both the child and family and help ensure that their service needs are met. In addition, the intern will work with a team of professionals including child abuse medical providers, forensic interviewers, advocates, Oregon Department of Human Services, and law enforcement.
Principal duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Provide on-site family support and referral services for clients and their family members
- Prepare intake paperwork and resource material for client and caregivers.
- Orient family on appointment process and assist in completion of paperwork, including Crimes Victims' Compensation application.
- Provide support to family during the appointment, including identifying needs and making service referrals as needed.
Assist with data tracking and other clerical/administrative duties.
Provide outreach and follow-up support services to clients and their families.
Qualifications and skills required:
- Enrolled in undergraduate degree program in Human Services or a field related to human services.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including a warm and approachable demeanor.
- Ability to build rapport with children and adults potentially impacted by trauma.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and database programs.
- Licensed, insured driver with access to reliable transportation.
- Ability to successfully complete a criminal background check and child abuse registry check.
