Job Description
The R&D Technician plays a key role in supporting the daily operations of the Research & Development laboratory by assisting with sample processing, experimental workflows, and general lab maintenance. This position contributes to ensuring that research activities are carried out efficiently, safely, and in compliance with quality standards. Working closely with the R&D Manager, the technician helps advance ongoing research projects and supports routine lab functions.
The technician will receive comprehensive training in molecular biology and genomics techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, RT-PCR, ELISA, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows. This training ensures that the technician is fully prepared to carry out laboratory tasks accurately and with confidence
R&D Technician Duties Include but are not Limited to the Following:
  • Process samples for developmental research as directed by the R&D team.
  • Collaborate with the R&D Manager to ensure samples are processed in alignment with quality standards and project timelines.
  • Support the upkeep and organization of the lab, including equipment and supplies.
  • Adhere to the lab's Quality Assurance (QA) system and follow all safety protocols.
  • Contribute to and assist with the following R&D workflows:
    • Completing and maintaining lab documentation and records
    • Preparing human, plant, seed, animal, bacterial, fungal, or probiotic samples
    • Performing DNA and RNA extraction and quantification
    • Conducting gel electrophoresis
    • Setting up, running, and analyzing results from TaqMan, KASP, and RT-PCR assays
    • Running and optimizing wet lab NGS and tGBS library preparation workflows
    • Conducting basic data analysis
  • Communicate results, challenges, and updates clearly and effectively with internal teams.
  • Take on additional tasks as needed to support R&D initiatives and ensure smooth lab operations.

The following tasks will be carried out in collaboration with and under the guidance of the R&D Manager, to help support the daily operations and goals of the R&D team:
  • Maintain lab inventory by organizing supplies and assisting with the ordering of reagents and materials as necessary.
  • Communicate any personnel-related concerns or observations to the R&D Manager.
  • Support quality management activities, including maintaining ISO documentation, training records, and ensuring proper record retention.
  • Assist with receiving and logging samples:
    • Unpack shipments, label containers, and ensure accurate data entry.
    • Verify sample condition and preservation in accordance with SOPs.
    • Transport samples to the appropriate storage or lab areas.
    • Assist with proper sample disposal when required.
  • Follow safety protocols to ensure a safe, respectful, and compliant work environment.
  • Assist in identifying and communicating resource or staffing needs to support operational efficiency and quality goals.
  • Provide support for equipment maintenance, including calibration and routine checks.
  • Ensure labware and materials are properly cleaned and prepared for use in lab procedures.
  • Handle all work with care, maintaining confidentiality in line with EBDI policies.
  • Contribute to the overall organization and upkeep of lab spaces and equipment as needed.

Qualifications
Basic Minimum Education Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biotechnology, or a related field is preferred.

Basic Minimum Work Requirements:
  • Willingness to receive training in molecular biology techniques and R&D protocols.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with high accuracy.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in recordkeeping.
  • Commitment to laboratory safety practices and maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Team-oriented with excellent interpersonal communication skills and a co-operative attitude
  • Authorization to work in the United States indefinitely without restriction or sponsorship.
