Position Description:
College for Creative Studies (CCS) invites applications for a subject matter expert / adjunct instructor to develop and teach a fully online class in Extended Reality for UX Design.
As part of an accelerated fully online graduate program, this 4-credit class is compressed into 7 weeks for an intensive learning experience. The course gives students a foundation in designing user experiences using Extended Reality (XR) technologies. Students discuss the present and future state of the alternative realities and their cultural and social impact through case studies and research about specific practices in various fields. With an emphasis on augmented reality (AR), and touching on virtual reality (VR) and mix-reality (MR), students will explore responsive environments, virtual presence, gaming, online social practices, storytelling and communication. The class is taught asynchronously, with office hours.

Experience of teaching User Experience Design at the college or university level is essential. Experience with online learning is an advantage. The post is suitable for remote working within the United States of America. Occasional on-campus attendance may be required.
Work on the course development will start immediately; teaching will occur in 2027.
Position Accountabilities and Essential Functions: This position is accountable to the Dean of Graduate Studies. Essential functions include:
  • Under the direction of, and in collaboration with the Collegeโ€™s Educational Technology team, develop teaching and learning materials for the course.
  • Teach and successfully deliver one class per academic year.
  • Complete all teaching as required by the College.
  • Complete training in Canvas and use it as required by the department and college.
  • Deal promptly with all development and administrative responsibilities attached to this work, as required by the Dean and Educational Technology team.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • A graduate degree with specialty relative to the course being taught.
  • However, candidates with significant, extensive, and relevant professional experience may also be considered โ€” review further details of CCSโ€™s credentialing policy.
  • Teaching experience at the college- or graduate-level is essential.
  • Experience of online teaching is an advantage.
  • Successful candidates must be committed to working with diverse student and community populations.

This job operates in a professional office and college campus environment.ย  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
