Job description

The School of Data Science is seeking motivated, detail-oriented, and reliable student workers to join the Office of Student Support team. These positions will provide for hands-on experience in student services, event planning, and communications while supporting the mission of creating a vibrant and inclusive community for all SDS students.

  • Administrative Support: Provide front desk coverage, greet visitors, answer phones, and assist with day-to-day office operations.
  • Events: Assist with the planning, setup, and execution of Office of Student Support programs, workshops, and community-building events.
  • Marketing & Communications: Support outreach through flyers, social media, newsletters, photography, and other communication tools to highlight student programming and opportunities.
  • Student Engagement: Serve as a welcoming resource for students, helping to connect them with OSS staff, services, and initiatives.
  • Special Projects: Contribute to projects that enhance student belonging, wellness, and success, as assigned by OSS staff.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Education: Current UVA student. Must be work-study eligible
  • Experience: None
  • Licensure: None

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and work independently in a professional environment
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and/or Google Workspace; experience with Canva, social media, or event promotion is a plus
  • Positive attitude, teamwork, and genuine interest in supporting the student experience at SDS


PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers.
