Job Description:
Are you looking for a role where your leadership and creativity directly elevate student-athlete academic success? Iowa State University Athletics is seeking an Assistant Director of Athletics Academic Services to help shape the academic journey of Cyclone student-athletes. In this pivotal position, you'll serve on leadership team, supervise a small team of academic coordinators, lead football academics and collaborate with campus partners to support student success.
What You'll Do
  • Serve on academic leadership team providing recommendations, planning, and problem solving.
  • Oversee academic support services provided to football student-athletes and provide strategic leadership for program.
  • Supervise, assist with searches, performance manage, schedule, mentor and train a small team of full-time academic support staff.
  • Coordinate the academic functions and counseling for football and other Olympic sports which will include complex, high-profile and high-risk student-athletes.
  • Responsible for academic monitoring and must be proactive in identifying potential academic issues including eligibility concerns.
  • Represent AAS in the recruitment of prospective student-athletes in high profile sports. Discusses the philosophy, vision, goals, expectations and support provided by the AAS academic support program and the university.
  • Coordinate various academic projects including acting as primary point of contact for student-athlete orientation and liaison to graduate school.
  • Commitment to adhering to all rules and regulations of the University, Big 12 Conference, and NCAA.

The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong foundation in athletics academic support, uphold high standards of academic integrity, and exhibit effective leadership abilities. They should possess strong communication skills, work collaboratively with colleagues and students, and maintain strict confidentiality. A commitment to multiculturalism and to supporting a diverse student population is essential. This role also requires flexibility and the ability to work outside normal business hours to meet student needs.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading football academic support within a division 1 athletics academic services office
  • Proficiency in providing academic support plans to high-risk collegiate student-athletes
  • Experience supervising full-time professional staff
  • Degree in a related field such as education, counseling or English
