Foot Delivery information

What is a foot delivery?

Foot delivery jobs involve delivering goods, such as food, parcels, or documents, by walking rather than using a vehicle or bicycle. These positions are common in densely populated urban areas where short distances and traffic congestion make walking the fastest option. Foot delivery workers often work for courier companies, food delivery services, or local businesses. The job requires good physical fitness, time management skills, and familiarity with the local area.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a foot delivery worker?

To thrive as a Foot Delivery Worker, you need strong physical stamina, time management skills, and familiarity with local routes; a high school diploma is often sufficient. Comfort using GPS navigation apps and delivery tracking systems is typically required. Reliability, customer service orientation, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for interacting with clients and handling unexpected situations. These skills ensure timely, efficient, and accurate deliveries, leading to customer satisfaction and operational success.

What are some common challenges faced by foot delivery workers, and how can they be managed?

Foot delivery workers often encounter challenges such as navigating busy urban environments, managing multiple deliveries efficiently, and dealing with varying weather conditions. Time management and route planning are essential skills to ensure deliveries are made promptly. Building familiarity with the local area and using navigation apps can help optimize routes and reduce delays. Additionally, maintaining good communication with dispatchers and customers is important for a smooth delivery experience.

Foot Delivery involves delivering items on foot, suitable for short distances and dense urban areas. Bicycle Delivery uses bikes, allowing faster delivery over longer distances while still navigating urban environments efficiently. Both roles require minimal credentials and are common in the courier and food delivery industries. The main difference lies in the mode of transportation, impacting delivery speed and area coverage.

Job description

White Glove Delivery Associate

Company: Check The Box LLC
Position Type: Full-Time Hourly (W-2)
Location: Marietta, GA — Greater Atlanta & North Georgia
Schedule: Monday–Friday; occasional early mornings, late evenings, or weekends based on delivery schedules
Compensation: Starting at $20/hour + tips; overtime eligible
Reports To: General Manager

About Check The Box

Check The Box is a luxury white-glove furniture logistics company serving interior designers, furniture showrooms and retailers, builders, and discerning homeowners throughout Greater Atlanta and North Georgia.

We are not a household moving company. We receive, handle, transport, deliver, and install high-end furniture, artwork, accessories, mattresses, cabinetry, antiques, and other valuable home furnishings. Many of the pieces we handle are one-of-a-kind, irreplaceable, or high-value, requiring exceptional care and attention to detail.

Every delivery should reflect the level of service our clients expect from a premium brand.

The Role

We are looking for a professional, dependable White Glove Delivery Associate who can safely operate a 26-foot delivery vehicle with lift gate, carefully handle and install valuable merchandise, and provide an exceptional customer experience from warehouse to final placement.

You will regularly work in luxury homes, designer installations, showrooms, model homes, and commercial environments. You must be comfortable communicating with homeowners, designers, builders, and retail partners while protecting their property and treating every item with care.

Customer service is at the core of our values. The way you communicate, present yourself, handle merchandise, solve problems, and interact with customers and coworkers should consistently reflect that standard.

Travel & Schedule

Our delivery territory includes Greater Atlanta and North Georgia. Daily routes consist of deliveries within a 30-45 mile radius; however, several times per month, routes may involve 2–3 hours of driving each way, resulting in longer workdays and deliveries that extend beyond typical business closing times.

Candidates should be comfortable with extended driving and variable delivery schedules as part of the position.

What You'll Do

  • Safely pull, inspect, load, transport, unload, deliver, assemble, and install furniture and other high-value merchandise.
  • Handle one-of-a-kind antiques, fine furniture, artwork, mattresses, cabinetry, and other high-value or fragile items with exceptional care.
  • Regularly deliver mattresses ranging from compact, rolled products to large, heavy, flexible or floppy mattresses that may require two-person handling.
  • Safely operate a 26-foot box truck with lift gate, pallet jacks, basic power tools, and other delivery/warehouse equipment.
  • Work collaboratively with teammates to safely move difficult, oversized, or heavy items.
  • Protect customer homes, floors, walls, doorways, and property during delivery and installation.
  • Assemble furniture and accurately hang artwork, mirrors, and other objects when required.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe warehouse; assist with pulling, loading, staging, and other warehouse duties.
  • Provide polished, proactive customer service and communicate professionally with customers regarding their deliveries.
  • Accurately complete delivery documentation, item logs, photographs, signatures, payments, and damage reports.
  • Follow company safety procedures and complete other duties as assigned.

What We're Looking For

  • Customer obsession and empathy — you genuinely care about the customer's experience.
  • Team player — positive and respectful when working independently or with others; willing to help load, pull, clean, and pitch in wherever needed.
  • Strong work ethic — reliable, accountable, proactive, and honest.
  • Professional presentation — clean personal hygiene and a tidy appearance. Company uniform provided; footwear and clothing must be reasonably clean and appropriate for customer-facing work.
  • Good driving record and valid driver's license; box truck experience strongly preferred.
  • 2–3 years of related delivery, installation, furniture, logistics, or skilled-trade experience strongly preferred.
  • Furniture assembly experience preferred.
  • Proficiency and accuracy hanging artwork, mirrors, and other objects strongly preferred. Candidates should understand the importance of proper placement, secure installation, leveling, and protecting high-value items and customer property.
  • Comfortable with the physical requirements of the job, including regularly lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, positioning, and maneuvering items up to or exceeding 75 lbs., with frequent bending, stooping, reaching, stair climbing, and navigating tight spaces.
  • Detail-oriented and careful when working with valuable merchandise, antiques, and customer property.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Comfortable learning and using computers, phones, apps, and warehouse-management software.
  • Scrappy and adaptable — comfortable in a growing small-business environment where everyone contributes and priorities can change.
  • Zero-drug policy: Employees must report to work fit for duty and free from the effects of illegal drugs or other impairing substances, consistent with company policy and applicable law.

Damage & Incident Reporting

Accidents happen. Transparency is what matters.

Any damage, accident, injury, or property issue must be reported immediately and documented accurately, regardless of who or what caused it.

Our goal is customer resolution and job-site safety—not getting employees in trouble for honestly reporting an accident. Hiding or failing to report an incident is unacceptable. Employees are expected to take responsibility, follow procedures, and communicate problems promptly. Damage resulting from negligence or failure to follow procedures may be addressed under company policy and applicable law.

A Great Fit If You...

Take pride in your work, care about the customer experience, enjoy working with your hands, and understand that excellent service is just as important as getting the furniture through the door.

You are dependable, respectful, safety-conscious, detail-oriented, and willing to do your part wherever the team needs help. You also want the opportunity to learn new skills and gain hands-on exposure to Atlanta's design-build industry—one of the largest and fastest-growing design and construction hubs in the U.S.

If that sounds like you, we'd like to hear from you!
