Job description

The Spencerport School District is currently accepting applications for a Food Service Helper to assist in the kitchen ofย  Bernabi Elementary School.ย  Applications will be reviewedย and selected candidatesย will be contacted for a screening interview.
*Applicants must be fingerprinted and cleared for employment for the NYS Education Department before employment begins.ย ย 
Job Description/Nature of Work:ย ย 



  • General kitchen work includes but not limited to preparation of foods, dishing/portioning of foods, set up of serving lines, cashing, serving, and cleanup of serving lines, and kitchen areas including washing pots and pans.
  • Participates in the maintenance of acceptable health, safety and sanitary practices as required by various regulatory agencies. Participates in the care and safe operation of the kitchen equipment.

Job Requirements:

  • ย Demonstrates proficiency in cash handling, including accurate operation of the cash registers and execution of cashier duties
  • Sufficient communication skills, manual dexterity and ability to perform food service skills under time constraints without close supervision
  • Safely operate, clean, and maintain utensils and equipment used in a school kitchen.
  • Follow written recipes and menus as provided.
  • Adhere to sanitation requirements in the handling and preparation of food.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students andย staff.
  • Physical stamina required to meet job demands include:
    • Standing for extended periods on hard surfaces
    • Lifting items up to 30 lbs.
    • Bending and reaching

Appointment:ย  10 months, part-time
Hours:ย  5.5 hours per day; ย 8:30am - 2:00pm
Salary/Rate of Pay:ย  Starting at $16.58 per hour, based on previous experience
Benefits:ย  NYS Pension, paid leave time
Start Date:ย  September 2026
