What is food videography?

Food videography is the art and technique of capturing appealing and engaging videos of food, often for use in advertisements, social media, cookbooks, or cooking shows. It involves filming recipes, cooking processes, and finished dishes to highlight their texture, color, and appeal. Food videographers use specialized techniques, equipment, and lighting to make food look as appetizing as possible, often collaborating with chefs and food stylists. This field has grown in demand with the rise of food blogging, YouTube cooking channels, and social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Food Videographer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Food Videographer, you need expertise in video production, a strong sense of visual storytelling, and knowledge of food styling, often supported by a background in film, photography, or culinary arts. Mastery of video editing software (such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro), camera equipment, and lighting setups is typically required. Creativity, attention to detail, and strong communication skills help set professionals apart in this field. These skills are crucial for producing visually compelling content that effectively captures and communicates the appeal of food, engaging viewers and clients alike.

What are the typical collaboration dynamics between a food videographer and other members of a production team?

Food videographers often work closely with food stylists, chefs, lighting technicians, and editors to ensure that each shot authentically captures the visual appeal of the dish. Effective communication is key, as videographers must coordinate with stylists to highlight textures and movements, while also working with directors or clients to align with the project's creative vision. Teamwork and flexibility are essential, since last-minute adjustments to plating, lighting, or camera angles are common. This collaborative environment fosters creativity and helps produce high-quality, engaging food content.

Job description

Role: Senior Content Creator

Location: Chicago, United States

About the role:

We're hiring a Senior Content Creator to join an embedded social team supporting a portfolio of leading global food and snacking brands, creating social-first content that connects with consumers through culture, creativity, and community.

This is a highly creative, hands-on role for someone who can take ideas from concept through execution - combining art direction, photography, videography, design, editing, food styling, and social expertise to create content that feels native, timely, and engaging.

Working closely with our strategy, community management, account, and creative leadership teams, this person will help shape always-on content across iconic consumer brands - identifying opportunities to connect with audiences through culturally relevant storytelling, beautiful food content, and platform-first creative.

What you will be doing:
  • Concept, capture, and produce high-quality organic social content across TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube Shorts, and emerging platforms
  • Lead the creation of food and lifestyle content, including recipe development support, food styling, product photography, tabletop shooting, and short-form video production
  • Bring a strong creative eye to every stage of content development, including concepting, art direction, composition, lighting, styling, shooting, editing, and final delivery
  • Develop social-first creative ideas in partnership with strategy and community management teams, translating cultural insights, trends, and audience behaviors into compelling content
  • Create a wide range of content formats including short-form video, motion graphics, photography, static assets, GIFs, and platform-native executions
  • Help evolve each brand's unique social identity while maintaining consistency with brand guidelines and creative standards
  • Proactively identify content opportunities, emerging trends, platform behaviors, and creative formats that can help brands participate authentically in culture
  • Storyboard concepts, develop shot lists, support scripting, and clearly communicate creative thinking internally and externally
  • Present creative ideas and recommendations to clients with clear rationale while remaining open to feedback and collaboration
  • Partner with creative leadership to continue raising the quality, effectiveness, and ambition of social content
  • Leverage GenAI tools and emerging technologies to accelerate ideation, experimentation, production workflows, and creative exploration
What you need to be great in this role:
  • 5+ years of experience creating premium social-first content for brands, ideally within food, beverage, CPG, lifestyle, or culture-driven categories
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise across photography, videography, editing, design, and social storytelling
  • Experience creating visually compelling food content, including food styling, recipe content, tabletop/product shooting, and lifestyle production
  • Strong understanding of TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, social trends, creator behaviors, and platform best practices
  • Ability to operate as a full-stack creator - comfortable moving from concept to capture to final edit
  • Strong design sensibility with experience using tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects), CapCut, and other social creation tools
  • Motion graphics, animation, and lightweight design capabilities strongly preferred
  • Experience leveraging GenAI tools such as Pencil, ChatGPT, Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, or similar platforms to enhance creative workflows preferred
  • Highly collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working within a fast-moving integrated team environment
  • Ability to balance premium craft with the speed, agility, and experimentation required for modern social content
  • At the time of this posting, the base salary for this position may range from $97,750.00 to $109,250.00. Individual compensation varies based on job related factors, including location, business needs, level of responsibility, experience, and qualifications. The range listed is just one component of OLIVER's total compensation package.
