Pine River-Backus Schools is seeking a dependable and enthusiastic team member to join our Food Service Department. This position works 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on student contact days and offers a wage of $16.50 per hour. Title: Food Services
Job Summary: To prepare nourishing and appealing meals for students and staff and assist in serving and cleanup duties as necessary.
Essential Functions:
  • Set Up
    • Set up kitchen and dining area so that they are ready for the day's meal preparation and serving.
  • Food Preparation
    • Prepare nutritious food following health regulations and supervisors directions.
  • Serving
    • Serve food so that it is presented in an appealing manner and served on a timely basis.
  • Clean Up
    • Clean kitchen and dining area so that area is clean and ready for the next days food preparation.
  • Assist Food Service Director
    • Assist in the food preparation for special functions as needed.
    • Assist in collecting and recording student and staff meal expenses and payments to accounts.
    • Perform other food service duties as requested.

Critical Skills/Expertise
Physical Involvement:
  • Requires extended periods of standing.
  • Repetitive motions of stirring, serving and mixing.
  • Frequent bending and stooping.
  • Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds.

Mental Involvement:
  • Must be flexible and willing to undertake a variety of tasks.
  • The ability to handle multiple tasks at once while dealing with constant interruptions.

Working Conditions:
  • Variables in room temperatures from cooking, dishwasher operation and utilization of freezer/refrigeration equipment.
  • Slippery floors.
  • Various noise levels from equipment and students.
  • Sharp blades/slicers.
  • Some heavy lifting.

Supervision of Other Employees: None
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience: Previous food preparation experience helpful, but not required.
Special Knowledge or Skills:
  • Comfortable in use of computer.
  • Knowledge of food service procedures, practices and equipment.
  • Knowledge of proper food handling and sanitation.
  • Must be Serv-Safe certified within one calendar year of being hired and must be re-certified, as necessary.

Equipment, Machines, Tools, Electronic Devices, Software:
  • Operate all food service and vending equipment.
  • Operates all office equipment including computers, printer, facsimile machines, copy machine and multi-line telephone.

  • Projects a positive, cooperative and respectful attitude with community members, parents, students and other employees.
  • Food is prepared in a nutritious, healthy and timely manner.
  • Kitchen and dining areas are set up and ready for food preparation.
