Description
We are seeking a passionate Production Cook & Weekend Food Service Driver with food planning, preparation, and line cooking experience to join our team! The Production Cook & Weekend Food Service Driver works in collaboration with the Food Services team, reporting to the Food Services Managers to assist women and families experiencing homelessness by providing delicious and nutritious meals.

The regular schedule for this position will be Thursday, Friday, Monday from 7:30 - 4:00 p.m. and Saturday & Sunday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. (Tuesday and Wednesday off)
The Production Cook & Weekend Food Service Driver is a full-time, non-exempt position based at our Regrade (downtown Seattle) site that requires weekends and some holiday hours. The hourly wage is $27.00/hour DOE.
Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Lead Production Cook in preparation of meals for up to 350 guests for distribution to all Mary's Place locations
  • Maintain production schedule for meal preparation to ensure timely delivery departure of meals from central kitchen
  • Assist in daily clean-up and sanitation, carry out dishwashing duties as assigned, and complete cleaning schedules in kitchen including associated paperwork, logs, and entries
  • Provide support to the operations staff as directed
  • Responsible to ensure that all staff follow all Mary's Place food-safety guidelines in handling food and properly loading food into sorting facility

Driving and Deliveries
  • Deliver food, dry goods, meals and supplies to shelters and partners
  • Safely operate cargo vehicles on freeways, residential roads, and in congested inner-city traffic
  • Pick up donations from corporate donors and donation collection sites
  • Help load and unload physical inventory between vehicles and sites; this may include use of pallet jacks, dollies and other non-mechanical tools (training is provided)
  • Maintain established Mary's Place standards for loading the truck and managing separation of loads and completing donation paperwork
  • Maintain established Mary's Place standards for delivering complete shipments and completing deliver paperwork
  • Ability to complete all paperwork as required
  • Log and report any issues/incidents with vehicle(s)
  • Perform basic maintenance and fueling as required
  • Support Operations team with special projects and events
  • Other duties as assigned (this is a general description of job duties; other duties may be assigned by the manager as needed)

Requirements
Skills/Qualifications
  • 3-5 years' institutional and restaurant experience, as well as a good working knowledge of all food preparation and production standards, including sanitation safety standards
  • Experience in a fast-paced kitchen and high-volume batch cooking
  • Ability to use a tilt skillet
  • Working knowledge of all commercial grade kitchen equipment
  • Strong communication skills, flexibility and willingness to shift priorities as needed
  • Experience driving high-roof cargo vans.
  • Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude and sense of humor
  • A valid Washington State driver's license
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Proof of personal vehicle insurance
  • An excellent driving record
  • Ability to remain calm in emergency and/or high-stress situations
  • Ability to work independently while following policies and procedures
  • Ability to interact effectively as a team member
  • Ability to follow all sanitation procedures
  • Food Handler permit required; serve safe training preferred (must acquire within 30 days of hire)
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
  • Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills
  • Sensitivity to the needs of guests who are experiencing homelessness, low-income, limited English speaking, or impacted by domestic violence, substance abuse, or other barriers
  • Commitment to diversity and an ability to work well with diverse family styles and multi- ethnic populations
  • Willing to take and submit a TB test within 30 days of employment.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to converse with and listen to people in many different settings
  • Ability to use a computer and telephone, as well as other standard office equipment
  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or continuous basis
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull, lift and/or carry supplies up to 50 pounds
  • Work takes place in a social services environment where long periods of sitting, working on a computer, walking to various work areas, going up and down stairs, and standing are required
  • Travel to program sites and meetings outside the site and around the county is necessary
  • Ability to work in an environment where there may be animals present, including dogs
