About the Food Service Aide Position


The Food Service Aide position is part-time (.75) – with a schedule of 7:00am - 1:00pm, Monday - Friday.


Reporting directly to the Food Service Manager, Food Service workers are members of the Food Service and Operations Team who supports the daily operations of Capital City PCS, specifically related to implementing the service of breakfast, lunch, and snack in accordance with Food Safety Standards, the National School Lunch Program and the Healthy School’s Act. This role will support in the operations and compliance related to food service by using the lunch program computer system to process student meals, as well as ensure FARM applications are properly submitted.


The responsibilities of the Food Service Aide include:


Food Delivery

  • Assemble and disburse day time snacks.
  • Collect and clean snack containers.
  • Organize classroom lunches for delivery.
  • Deliver lunches to classrooms.
  • Retrieve and clean delivery bags and containers.


Kitchen Maintenance

  • Ensure cooking equipment is powered and working.
  • Organize and store daily delivery.
  • Clean Kitchen.
  • Breakdown boxes.
  • Clean and breakdown service line.
  • Clean reheat kitchen (clean dishes, put food away, clean floors).
  • Document temperature for all refrigeration.
  • Clean Cafeteria after all lunch services.


Food Service

  • Prep for lunch (replenish plates, napkins, utensils).
  • Count and take the temperature of incoming food delivery.
  • Prep food for reheating.
  • Setup the lunch line for all 3-lunch services.
  • Serve at assigned lunch periods.
  • Clean Cafeteria tables between lunches.
  • Take and record reheating temperatures.
  • Assemble and disburse breakfast to designated areas.
  • Collect and clean breakfast carts.
  • Prep and deliver all after school snacks to Eagle Wing, After Care classrooms, cafeteria, etc.
  • Assist with snack preparation for Sports & Clubs Snacks.


Other duties as assigned by the Food Service Manager or Director of Operations.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bilingual
  • Active DC Food Handlers Certificate
  • Experience working in food service, preferable in a school setting
  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 50lbs
  • Ability to process breakfast and lunch pins through the POS system


In addition to the above requirements, staff members must meet the requirements of all hires at Capital City including a satisfactory criminal background check.
