Does pneumonia qualify for FMLA?

Pneumonia can qualify for FMLA leave if it causes a serious health condition that makes an employee unable to perform their job duties, and if the employee has worked the required hours for eligibility. Medical certification from a healthcare provider is typically needed to substantiate the need for leave. FMLA provides up to 12 weeks of unpaid leave for such serious health conditions.

What is the downside of FMLA?

For employees in roles covered by FMLA, a potential downside is job protection limitations, as FMLA only guarantees unpaid leave and does not ensure paid time off or job reinstatement in all circumstances. Additionally, taking FMLA leave can sometimes lead to workplace stigma or impact career advancement if not managed carefully.
